I hate when this happens.
I've made no secret that I'm trading to raise funds for my mothership projects. So I find a nifty piece of Ovation Craftsmanship (a closer adjective than it seems on the face of it), thinking I can flip it. Then I open the case and...well...kind of just gape at the thing for a minute.
Then I clean it up.
Then I string it up.
Then I tune it up.
And DANG IT!
It's one of the best-sounding, easiest-playing guitars of any brand I've ever touched! And as you can tell, it looks fabulous as well. So now what am I supposed to do? I mean....
Just LOOK at this thing!
It even matches the scenery....
This one's a little out of focus, but it's the only pic that shows even a little bit of the mind-bogglin grain in the fretboard.

That's purdy and like you say blends with/compliments the background.
Seems a shame but why not leave it outside as a piece of landscape art?
Makes me want to dig out my 1537, in fact I'll get the old girl out tomorrow and blast through The Irish Girl (Adrian Legg). |

Keep it and find something else to sell. Like your oldest daughter....... |

Just say no.
Although ... if you begin to feel REALLY guilty about having all the most beautiful guitars in the world, perhaps it's time to just GIVE one away. There's probably at least one person out there that would be extremely grateful. |

I don't know if you are planning on keeping it, but if not, your initial post exhibited some excellent salesmanship. You've got us all salivating without even naming a price (yet?) ;) |

Have you noticed that the sky shots really seem to make the abalone edging go almost 3D! Especially with a flash.

Ain't Ovation's great? If I had just picked up my Martin D-42, it would have waited for warmer weather to take pictures outside....MUCH warmer weather. (25 F here today.)

It fooled me too. The label says Elite 1768. No "N" or anything. I'm gonna ask John and Kim about it next week. Serial number dates it to 1990. The only issues with it are a minor ding and a place where it looks like a piece of epaulette was glued back on. (A good, clean job but it's just a smidge out of level, and if you look close you can see the tiny cracks where it separated.)

Still, somebody I think is wonderful DID say I could keep it if I wanted!

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I was just pondering the model number, and how it just says Elite 1769. It MAY be this went back to the factory at one time and all the extras were added. That would explain the model number not changing. My only other guess without knowing about the model number is a 1769, would be that it was a custom order. Either way ... she sure is purdy. If I had ordered one like that, I think I would have requested dark binding all the way around and up the neck.(did I ever mention that I don't care for white binding?) |

But this one came from Craigs List. Now that I think on it, I haven't snagged a steal, or anything else from eBay in a long time. Too many sharks in that pool I think. ;)
And just for clarification, the label says 1768 not 1769.

"Hi Patrick, It is most likely a N768 that didn't make it to Japan then we would have put a regular label in it, my best guess anyway. John"
As far as I'm concerned then, it's a Craftsman...in disguise. |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Not an SSB. It's a deep bowl and easily contends with my 87C and Book Elite acoustically. A VERY good sounding instrument. It actually has some of the best bass response of any of my O's. |

Love the look of this guitar. The burst is killer and the abalone… Schwinggg! Don’t have an 87C here to compare it to but it does have a great voice. Found this one in Florida and thanks to G8r, was able to nab it in complete confidence without ever having played it. Came from the original owner who used to live in California. Owner said it was one of ten that his favorite music store there had made for an anniversary and said that Pat Simmons bought one the same day he bought this one. Chance you may have a Doobie guitar there, Patch!

Patch, he told me the name of the store but I sure didn't recognize it and didn't think it important enough at the time to write it down I guess. I do still have the guy's number and I did call but so far he hasn't returned 2 messages. I will post if I hear from him though.
