That is sweet. Wish it had been there when I was down to FT Myers.
I could have brought it part way so Jack wouldn't have to pay as much for shipping. :D |

| Never seen a USA one with no pup covers and the solid inlays instead of the Hamer trademark Vs. Only ever seen those on imports. Was it custom ordered?
Like gallerinski I am no expert. Every time I think I know something...... |

Location: South of most, North of few | Yup, this one's got the USA logo on the headstock, and schroeder, those are Tom Anderson pickups. They have a little wider pole spacing than normal pu's, and I hear they are supposed to be something special, although I can't tell the difference from a normal Seymour Duncan setup. Just designer name I guess, hand wound, blah, blah.... therefore worth more money(?) |

Location: South of most, North of few | Thanks Karen, I'm starting to get a few licks together, and am playing it more than the acoustics. I might end up selling the acoustics and buying more electrics before long.
Forget the slippery slope, this is down hill skiing. ;) |

The Hamer Duotone I had for awhile. The truss rod cover is probably from the same era as Tj's, but it wasn't original. The original from 84, I think, was shaped more like we'd see on the Ovations. It went along with the guitar, too. |

Like having two guitars in one, which didn't make any sense for a guy who had 15 others that never got plugged in, so I sold it. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | The pickups and switching are similar between the Duo-Tone and VXT models with two notable differences. Whereas the Duo-Tone delivers its two pickup systems via separate output jacks, the VXT combines the two channels through a single 1/4" jack in mono mode, or split through stereo channels via the same jack. In addition, whereas both models use a piezo pickup under the bridge for acoustic tone, the VXT runs the signal through its proprietary VIP circuitry. |

There have been many US Hamer models with exposed coils. I have owned two Special FM models from '93 and '96 which came stock with Duncan '59 and JB exposed coil pick-ups. Older Sunbursts always had exposed coil DiMarzio's (I believe). And there are many Studios and Artists with similar setups. In fact, there's a pretty 90's Studio Custom for trade at the HFC with most likely stock exposed coils and crowns.

And, FWIW, the small USA inlay is clearly visible on the headstock in the pics.Hamer stopped doing crowns a while ago and I believe only did them for special orders, which this guitar was. Dots or Victory's were the norm. Do notice that it also has the highly desirable not often seen additional first fret crown inlay as well.
Let's also not forget that this one off is also a chambered version which is not the way they come off the rack.
As far as the Anderson pickups are concerned, Tom Anderson is master builder and those pieces are indeed hand wound. But, they are really not that different in price than a new set of Duncan's. |
