I have a bunch of straps...
I have alot of nylon web straps and a few leather ones.
Almost all of them allow the headstock of my guitars to 'dip'.
This is especially pronounced on my electric guitars but it happen on my acoustics too.

So I need advice on strap material.

Also, does anybody have any 'tricks' that they use to make the strap grab your shoulder.
Y'know? Duck tape or something like that?
(I have not tried duck tape, that just popped into my head)

Any suggestions?

Duck tape only works on ducks!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

This seems like it would only happen if you weren't holding the neck of the guitar. Are you not holding on? Even with straplocks that seems like a potential disaster waiting to happen.

A lot of the Levy's straps have suede lining which tends to grip onto your shirt/blouse/jacket/skin and keep the guitar where you want it. The nylon ones and some smooth leather ones move around a lot on me when I play.

Some straps slide and some don't. I prefer the skinny straps with a leather shoulder pad, ala vintage Fender and Gretsch, but also available from Al's buddies with an OFC logo. To stop the strap from sliding inside the pad, I figure out exactly where I want the pad, punch holes, then lace the pad and strap together. They never slide after that.

With my Heartwoods straps they all have that tendency, so I just epoxy a little piece of sued or velcro to the underside, where it rests on your shoulder. Works for me.

I got an observation and two recommendations.

Generally speaking if the back of the strap is suede or similar material it doesn't slide.

For my electrics I get the cheap planet wave leather 2.5 inch straps, they're about $17 bucks with free shipping from sweetwater. Once I get one, they're a little hard so I use slather on a ton of leather conditioner, use it, and after about a month it's supple.

Also, Carvin makes a good strap.

I too find the nylon and cotton straps to slide, though for a light guitar like a country artist they aren't too bad. The classic thin ones don't work too well for me with a heavey guitar.
