Location: South of most, North of few | Got the 1681-8 two knobber back from Beggin. It's now in it's 3rd revisit to my house and it's just as pristine as I remember it. Hopefully I'll be smart enough to keep it this time. I'd forgotten just how good this guitar sounds. Do me a favor, if I put it up for sale, somebody kick me. Thanks Jimbo, for letting me get it back! |

When I first saw this, I called my wife over to the desk to show her and said, "Look at this, his grass is green!" :) We're under about a foot of snow right now so we're both a bit envious.

Location: Right now? | She's a beauty, Jim! I have a 1681-5, but not a two knobber. I did, however, get my two knobber 12 string 1685-5 (remember the "Honolulu Horror") back from it's overhaul at the Mother Ship (see photos on my Ning page). Many thanks to John Budny and Kim Keller. All I can say is they performed their magic, and I am a happy camper.
The 1680's are superb instruments ... but you already know that. Congratulations on your re-acquistion .. now Hold ON TO HER!

Geesh! I do that ALL THE TIME!! I meant to write "1681's" ... although the 1680's ARE sweet! TJ, I'm running a clock on ya ... that color is a particularly pretty color blue. Does she have sparkles, er ... flakes ... whatever one should call them? I'm not sure from the photo. I LOVE sparkles, but I know they are not for everyone.

Location: South of most, North of few | Ohboy, another one. When Beggin was trying to dislodge it from me at G8r's the last bowl, they kept saying it had a crack in the neck. :rolleyes:
Yes Willa, it does have a little sparkle to it on the top, but not on the bowl.
A history:
I bought this on Ebay when the Adamas was in its heyday, and got it for a good price (which would be far too much now). When it arrived, I noticed it had a lot of fret wear, but played fine.
I pulled the strings off to restring it, and noticed the neck was loose on the body. I tightened it up as per John Budny's recommendation, and when I did restring it, the fret wear groves didn't line up with the strings anymore. :confused: At this point, I called John and got a return number, and sent it back to the factory for a treatment.
After a full inspection, he said it would be cheaper to replace the neck as the fret board was worn and re fretting it wouldn't make it right. He had a NOS neck in stock and offered it to me at a killer price, so I said OK. At the same time, they resprayed the bowl, went through the electronics, repaired an eppie that was sticking up a little and just gave it a good going over.
When it came back, it was just about as new as new could be. I still have the original headstock (that they sent back to me) mounted on a thick piece of walnut as a paper weight.
I traded it to Stephen for a 30th CM, then bought it back from him (thanks Stephen), then sold it to Beggin, then bought it back from him (again, thanks Jim). Now, I think it's come home to roost for good. :D |
