Location: South of most, North of few | You can never keep a guitar pristine unless you keep it in the case. Take it out, and you've got a ding. Yours just got it early, consider yourself lucky it's so small. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | If it's under the finish it should have been caught at the QC check in the factory. But stuff slips through. You could return it and get another one and it could have a different problem. |

It's obvious this is bothering you, as it would a lot of folks who just bought a premium guitar that arrived with a defect. Contact the dealer you bought it from and explain the situation. Even if you decide not to do anything about it right now, at least they'll have a record of it should something happen later on down the road. |

Location: Michigan | yoch it must already bother you if you made this post .if you are a person who has a bit of o.c.d. then you will spend the rest of your life looking at that flaw every time that you pick up your guitar.it is the human element in us.
nobody else will probably pick up on it but you.
i have a small crack in my drywall at my house and every time i go buy it i just have to look at it.i have fixed it 3 times and after a year or so it keeps coming back but i have to look every time i go by it.
it drives me crazy :eek: but i now have learned to live with it , i think :confused:
i tell myself doug don't look up at the crack in the ceiling when you walk by it :rolleyes: but then the voice in my head says doug you have to look at it and then the voice says no don't look doug ahhhhhh ....
im not looking up at the crack in the drywall ahhhhhh ............ yes doug you have to ,but if i don't look this time it will just go away ahhhhh

I once had a VERY EXPENSIVE electric guitar that I babied to no end. Absolutely perfect until I raised it over my head to take it off and landed the headstock smack dab into the turning ceiling fan. Took a good sized nick into the finsh and broke the tuning key.
Small dings never bothered me much after that.
If it sounds good, play it.
Eventually you will forget about it and add a bit more character in new previously unmarked areas. |

Location: Utah | Yoch, that's a pretty nice and expensive Ovation, yes? I would be unhappy with a significant flaw that I can easily see.
My 2007 Collector's has a dust fiber trapped in the finish, which is not really visible except from the player's position where the bump in the finish is visible. From any other location it really isn't noticable. It bothered me a bit at first, but I realize that A) I got a fantastic deal from Al on an FRG guitar, so this was a pretty minor flaw for the huge discount I got, and B) nobody else is ever going to see the flaw.
In your situation, I think that some kind of discount or other satisfaction is reasonable. Either the dealer or the factory should do something to make it right for you. |

Yoch. Just play your gorgeous guitar. You know yourself better than anyone, and if it's bugging you, it's going to keep bugging you. Also, as the guitar ages, the mark will become more visible, no? If it's as tiny as you said, I'd leave it alone and just keep her. I do agree with StephenT28 that a pristine guitar is one that never gets played. That's what they are made for!
If it looks like someone set a wet beer bottle on the top before it was finished, I'd have it replaced, but that's just me.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I regularly gig with one of Takamine's best ever models, the EF75. Our sound engineer was pulling cable around the stage and, of course, yanked out a kink and the metal connector wrapped up against the guitar's top. The sound was ugly and the resulting ding was the first one on the guitar. It is noticeable and really bugged me for awhile. On the other hand, the sound engineer is very talented, a good friend, and he rebuilt a PA system head for me for just the cost of the parts. His continuing friendship is worth more to me than the ding in the guitar, so I'm living with it. Nonetheless, I can't look at the guitar without noticing the ding. Plus, I learned a valuable lesson . . . never leave a guitar in a stage rack until the sound engineer has finished pulling cable. |

Consider that your guitar is made by humans, and that there's about 193,000 square millimeters on the top of that guitar, and just one of those is less than perfect.
That means that 99.9995% is fine. Pretty good for a human.

At this point I'm in agreement. I got a great deal on it so I'm not inclined to make them bend on the price.
I've been playing phone-tag with Ovation... I'll probably connect with them on Monday. |

It probably didn't pass the final quality check so was sold as is. I don't think you've got a claim against either the seller OR Ovation - unless the seller claimed it was unblemished - then you might have a case.
You're probably the first person on this board to actually find the fault on their FRG. I don't think anyone else has, (I couldn't) so in that respect, you're just damm unlucky.
Anyway - it's so small. Don't be so precious and play the #*#* out of it and let the ding collection begin. Think of Willy Nelson's guitar - should put it in perspective. |

1) Fix it;
2) GLUE a nice picture (sugestion: a nice Ovation picture) over it;
3) it was fixed last time you saw it. Now you don´t see it anymore. Ergo, problem solved, ocd satisfied. |

they volunteered to go all the way to make it right if it continues to bother me.
I appreciate that much but the spot is just tooo small and some insect was lucky enough to have a fragment of his rear-end (looks like) memorialized in the finish of this gorgeous guitar. |
