So I would suspect that you could pretty easily order it to your required dimensions (bowl, nut) with too much hastle, but better check with Al about that. |

Location: Utah | I'm disappointed that it is a mid-bowl with 1 7/8 nut. It could be that Kaki plays such an instrument, I don't know. She plays a lot of extreme low tunings for which the deeper bowl is better suited.
My girls both loved Kaki's guitar in real life, and I think that the epi styling is intended to be a bit girly or rebellious from the standard epis. Us old fat guys may not be drawn to the styling, but the target audience in this household approves. |

Check her out on Youtube. Her older stuff is full of tapping and fingerstyle, suitable for solo live performance though her recordings are multi-tracked. She started out young as a drummer, so her guitar playing has interesting percussiveness as well unusual tunings.
Her newer stuff is more commercial and features some singing. There is electric guitar on some of the newer songs.
She's got some movie credits for music scoring and soundtracks. August Rush features her as the hands of the guitarist and her actual playing is the soundtrack. She did some scoring on Into the Wild. |

(And I was the one who always helped our dad work on our cars, so yes, I have had experience helping reseat one.) It didn't remind me of anything at first, but, just now, it dawned on me that it also looks like Battenburg lace.
I like it...

Location: atlanta | She had one with her when she visited for Christmas and she played it several times for me. To my ear it is capable of the same low tunings and beautiful deep bass of her original vintage 1581 II (her first record was made with that guitar and then it was stolen in a burglary...which originally caused me to find this forum and join up). Moody and Al probably remember me doing that--I was such a noob!
I played the guitar a little before she left for Australia. It makes harmonics at virtually every fret, and the neck is very fast...very much like an electric. The crown inlay surprised me, and I eventually decided that I liked it (although I must admit I did also like the little solid crown on her prototypes).
Hopefully it will be on display at NAMM and some of you will get a chance to form your own opinion about it.
Best regards to all--
Dave King

Having pulled and replaced many a water pump on Ford small blocks my first impression of the Epi is of the Gasket. Glop a little RTV Red on the edges and you've nailed it.
The second impression is of Bubbles, which then turn to Clouds and then fade into an Anime sort of Power plasma burst.
Point being that cultural and media influences play a key role in how the "signature" is interpreted and Kaki is definately one or two generations ahead of my knuckle-bust'in days.
Keep it up! |

It certainly is a nice guitar.
Distinctive certainly, but not to my taste appearance wise.
I agree with the manifold/water pump gasket analogy.

I know I've seen it somewhere before. Can you give me some details on that guitar? I'm nosey. Is it Gallerinski's (Dave's)?
Love it. Is it yours?
Karen, when I saw Kaki's guitar for the first time, brass knuckles was the FIRST thing I saw, but you are right, it COULD be Battenburg lace!

Nick The factory website says 1 7/8" nut. Perhaps the seller has it wrong on his auction. |

Overall I say it's a winner (even though I haven't gotten my mitts on one to test it out).
This is the first evidence I've seen that Fender is stepping up to the plate to put money into Ovation. (Wasn't the idea guitar already on the drawing board when Fender bought them?) Anyway, can't wait to tour the factory. |
