Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | I blundered through the way back machine about an hour ago completely by mistake. I was looking through an old sheet music file and I found this song I wrote in the late eighties. I can't remember the last time I played it as I thought I had lost the music long ago. Seriously, this is better than finding a $20 bill smashed in your coat pocket from last winter!
I had only been playing for a few years then, and the structure of the song shows it. But for a cowboy chorder, it held up pretty well. I immediately grabbed a guitar and played it through once as best I could remember, and for me, the neat thing was that I didn't even get five lines into the song when my memories just exploded into my mind's eye with the kind of detail only music can recall.
So I immediately grabbed my H4 and made this rough mp3 cut. Obviously, this is a sentimental piece for me, but I would still love constructive feedback. Be gentle please, it's only the second time I've played this song in a long, long time. Here's the link to my ning page. Scroll down to my music on the left and look for "Remember Then."
Rest in Peace Granny.

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | My problem with the song is that on my laptop at work the volume was coming across so low I could not hear it very well.....even at full volume.
Did it get recorded very quite???
What I could hear sounded nice but it was too much of a strain for me to hear well.
I'll try it again at home when I can run it through the studio monitors. |

Thanx! Now that brought back many sweet ol' memories. Very heartfelt lyrics and singing.
If ya could boost your softer vocals a touch, my senior ears would be grateful. Ummm, did I imagine a soft bass with a few shorts fill runs in the background... ?
Truly, a moving song... |

The volume is just fine here. Then again I'm not as old as Iffy! |

Also, I think I sound a little tentative, but find that no surprise considering how long it's been since I played this song.
I appreciate the kind words and maybe can get around to posting a cleaner, clearer version some time in the future. :) |

Best,

It's always been too much of a strain for me to find anything on the Ning site. I click on stuff there and nothing happens - I try it again and nothing continues to happen..lol |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Thanks for the comments everyone. I've used audacity to bring up the volume a little, so I would love to hear again from those who had trouble with it earlier.
Also, for what it's worth, here are the lyrics:
Remember Then
I remember every year
Daddy took us to his momma’s house.
We’d spend the summer there.
My little brother, he and me,
We shared a bed sometimes we’d be there
With our feet up on the pillows.
I’d lay and listen to the breeze
Shake the leaves out on my granny’s front yard tree.
But now the tree and bed are gone,
And as for me I’ve moved along.
But I still like to sleep by windows.
And if I close my eyes,
I feel the evening breeze flowing over me.
I hear the summer wind whisperin’ in her tree.
I’ll never sleep that way again;
My head down at the foot of grannny’s bed.
But I don’t need her bed to feel that way again.
I only need remember then.
I used her swing to lounge around.
On the back porch where the wind chimes
Softly covered every sound.
One bare foot up on the chain,
One on the ground to rock the swing,
And her cat laid ‘cross my elbow.
But now the swing’s no longer there.
And everything she had’s been scattered through her family
God knows where.
And all these sentimental things
Are nice to have yet rarely seen but still,
They’re only things…and I know.
That if I close my eyes,
I’ll hear the creaking chain and smell the morning air.
And that cat will snuggle in without a care.
And I pray to God that I can someday give these feelings to my own;
That they remember where they’ve come from in the end.
That they all remember then. |
