Thank you Damon67 for the picture. |

Amazing to stand near one of those big redwoods.
I didn't know Sitkas got that big though.
I know they sound good when made into CL's :
Actually I think my 88 Collectors is made of Sitka Spruce too. |

picea sitchensis
Sitka spruce
Grows along the northwestern coast of the United States and Canada all the way up into Alaska.
Very good stiffness provides a strong fundamental to overtone ratio. Sitka will make for a guitar which can be played louder than Engelman without losing clarity. It is one of the most popular tonewoods for guitar top wood and is now the primary top wood for Martin. Although it an have a longer breakin time than other spruce Sitka is well worth the wait and at the end of it's breakin period the results can be quite a bit better than where it started. Sitka has a tendency to be more visually colored than other spruce.
And Mark,
Does size really matter?
 |

Those guitars need to be sitting next to a graphite tree.
Woody, this one's over 270'. Here's what it said on the plaque in the Hoh Rainforest.

The deck is still waiting for a jam. |

That's because you never invited me.
I can play the Jim Croce stuff. Leastways my playing has been compared to that of a junkyard dog. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Hey, stranger, I've been inviting everyone for years, but all these Americans seem to think it's too far. If you need a special invitation, this is it, because I can't PM or email you. I'll even supply the Ute, so you don't have to worry about carrying yours on the plane. I could probably get you a job coaching a field goal kicker (American football) who seems to have a problem kicking from the left side. |

Nice slow melodies for my
"wanna be a star" fingers. Officially the first song I learned on the guitar. I think I was around 8 or 9. I had a student guitar, Carlos was the brand. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Maybe I could stir up some interest with a link to the 1000 acre park next to the cabin. We're on John Alden road. I'm not sure the largest Englemann Spruce in the country is in the park, but it's on state land in that county, so it's likely. If my deck isn't good enough for a gig, I may be able to get the amphitheater in the park. I know it's not Amelia Island, Olympic National Park or even the Smoky Mountains and it's not easy to get to, but if it was easy to get to, it probably wouldn't be worth going.
Ponderosa Park
Zoom out a bit and you'll see a golf course a few blocks south of the cabin. No alligators, but I doubt anyone on this site has enough balls to play golf in the forest. Pun intended. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Engelmann Spruce are part of the family of giant North American coastal conifers that also include the great California redwoods and the incredible giant Sequoia trees. Sequoia National Park should be on everybody's must see places to visit. It has particularly meaningful memories for me because it was the very first (of many) national parks from which I was thrown out for obnoxiously loud motorcycle pipes. The year was 1969 and the bike was a 1967 BSA Thunderbolt. That was the same trip from which I had to return early to go to basic training while my riding buddies continued on to a little music festival in New York. |

Actually, I need to get down there. Our daughter lives close. There are so many great driving vacations in this area that we haven't taken advantage of. That's one of the downsides to owning "vacation property". We have someplace to go and all I ever do is work on the place. |

He was sitting in the corner of a local Denver bar drinking and doing psychedelics. |
