Location: Ireland | Have always kept my guitars (only two so far) in their cases. About to purchase a third and would like to put away the cases and hang them on the wall. Have purchased good quality Hercules attachments to hang them on, but was wondering the views of you guys? The Hercules attachments are the same as they use in a number of music stores I've visited. However some opinions i've heard warn that hanging a guitar like this stresses the neck (over time). Another opinion is that Ovations can suffer bridge damage due to the stresses of being hung. I thought that this would be the best place to get quality and knowledgeable feedback.
Many thanks in advance. |

Have you owned/own all of these? You certainly have a talent for capturing the beauty of the guitar in photographs. Happily spent time looking through the collection. |

All my others however slumber, snuggly tucked up in their cases waiting for the call to arms (literally, geddit ;) )
Hey Pastyp if you like nice pics of guitars you might like to look at mine (see signature). |

Location: Ireland | Hi dweezil, Nice collection! I only have two soon to be three, a Martin HD28 and a Takamine EN20C. The Takamine is the workhorse for a band I play in. Soon to have a 12 string pacemaker to play with the band.
Really liked the samples you had on your site from your upcoming recordings. I see your from Blighty, the samples I heard had the traditional feel to them. Really enjoyed them. If you don't mind me saying they also reminded me of trad Irish. There are a few different artists I listen too that have the same feel - Denis Cahill who plays with a great irish trad fidle player, Martin Hayes is a joy to listen to. Also a band called Altan, who combine the trad sound of the DADGAD guitar very well into their music. Enjoyed listening dweezil, thanks - will follow up when album is released. |

I'm a sucker for Turlough O'Carolan tunes, first album has a couple as will the next. Next week I'll be recording Blind Mary and Carolan's Draught, DADGBE and DADGAD (capo at 5th fret).

The DADGAD bass drone also fits the Irish traditional guitar accompanied tunes because of the use of the Uilleann pipe which had that constant bass running through the music. Nice discovery! |

More serious concern should be directed to how the hanger is attached to the wall as well as maintaining proper humidity in the room where the guitars are hung. |

On the other hand, some members here have so many guitars they probably don't have the wall space. Must be tough for them ... having to live with the guilt of not playing them all. |

I used to fit that description....and you are right. I did feel guilty not giving them all some quality time on a regular basis.
Have sold most of them and now have things down to a managable level and they all hang on the wall so that they can resonate and sing along. |

I do rotate 'em periodically and keep at least four or five at hand. When I do, it's a joy to reconnect with the flavor and individual characteristics that captured me in the first place.
Many here may not appreciate my 'take' and I do understand. This is a hobby for me and it has provided me with hundreds of hours of satisfaction. After doing some research and adopting an Ovation, I love stripping it down, doing an 'Iffy Beauty Treatment' and recapturing it's ol' luster. After restringing and tuning up, it's time to savor and evaluate the playability and tonal qualities (in my limited way).
Those that have received any of my gits have nothing left to do but play 'em.
Then, there's the wonderful stories of the quests and the fabulous folk I've met as a result!
Well, excuse me for a while... I have a recently adopted 1657 that really needs an IBT... |

Location: Ireland | Great feedback :) Yes a PM will be mine again soon and it is because of the arrival of my third guitar (which is a poor showing compared to the lucky ones here :) but gives me something to aim for!!!) I want to put all three on the wall. I'll have the Martin HD28 on the left, Takamine (workhorse) EN20C on the right and the BEAUTIFUL pacemaker in the center. They say you should only hang art on the wall - well can't think of any better art than a living breathing musical instrument. Especially the PM, with its sunburst and beautiful headstock. Hmmm - can't wait!!! |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Thanks, but I'm already a couple over the limit (the one in - one out rule has been broken) I'm wondering when she will come down and do a count again, then the pressure will be on to sell a couple. My strategy right now is to keep the basement uncomforably cold, so she won't want to go there (; also to keep a couple in their cases. |

I bought a low cost ($25) indoor device that checks temp and humidity and found that my house has the perfect, recommended temp and humidity levels. Now they're all going up on the wall. |

Just do it.

I was cruising a local junk shop this week, looking for nothing in particular when the corner of this card caught my eye. Sitting all by itself amongst a completely unrelated bunch of glassware and knick knacks. Hadda have it.

Rich, the flute is probably okay company but nothing a guitar will want to create a deep enough relationship with. But give it time. The 1537 I bought a little over a year ago has since produced one hell of a family. .
Your place looks awesome, incidently. Is that a slab of pipestone? Very nice.

Thanks. Actually not a flute but a wood back massager. There is no pipestone in the photo. The mantle is a pine log I notched out to fit over the supports and the rock and sill is of the "cultured stone" variety.
Johnny the lure above my head is one of those giant rapela's I picked up on ebay a few years back. "Firetiger" pattern was the hot one at that time. My wife rolled her eyes at that addition. |

Say, pastyp, there's a lot of other stuff you hang on the wall between the guitars while you're building your collection, like signs, banners, and all kinds of collectible crap. Try not to take it too seriously because the collectibles can become just as consuming as the guitars. |

My dogs guard all my guitars ... whereever they might be at the time. Henry sounds the alarm:
Rufus watches the house and car:
Then there's crazy-@ss Diesel, who routinely checks the attic and yard for possible suspects. He has been trained to bite the most delicate areas of possible home and/or guitar invaders and can silently make it to the fence/gate in six seconds flat. Can you?
Diego just patiently listens to me practice:

Our dog used to be afraid of my guitar, but that was when it just sat on a stand and was rarely played. She finally got used to them, but wouldn't be worth anything as a guard dog.
I do like hanging the guitars as a means of keeping them safe from pets and kids, as well keeping them all exposed to the room humidifier. |
