This is likely old news to most of you but it was new to me so for the benefit of any other newbies like myself here it is. I was trying to record my new song (see my last post) and I was getting some really terrible hiss. I tried new cables, bypassing the amp, bypassing the effects, different channels on the board...nothing worked. Finally I popped the pre-amp out of the guitar and changed the battery and the hiss went away! It was just the battery getting weak. I would have never guessed that could cause hiss like that. Just wanted to pass this along for anyone it may benefit. Happy Playing! :D

You'd be surprised how many times people will post about trouble-shooting a preamp or Buzz issue and then get bent out of shape when the first suggestion is to change the battery!
I would also add that you change it for a new battery and not the two or three sitting on the shelf that have been in constant rotation :rolleyes:
I'm looking at the 2010 Calendar and it looks to me like a potential OFC NW Gathering on the July 3-5 Weekend.
I'm thinking a few BFLG Hand's on seminars are in order!

Did the charger survive? Did the chemicals from the batteries corrode the terminals? I really need to invest in some rechargeables...I have so many guitars that run them now it is getting expensive to keep replacing them.

One of them was dead because I left the dummy plug in the guitar with the VIP. I'll get a stocking full of 9V batteries from Santa. I changed the strings on the Custom Balladeer and checked the battery. It was fine and hasn't been replaced in years. Apparently the old preamps didn't drain the batteries when they were just sitting around. The only thing I use the new preamps for is the tuners.
