| Kinda sorta looking for my first Adamas. I've been incredibly fortunate to play the best Adamii out there, including the 47RI, the OFC, the UTE, and several original slotheads. How does the Adamas II (circa 1980 or so) compare? How does the I compare to the II (I have to admit I prefer the headstock/bridge of the I over the II). What are the differences in tone, bracing patterns, etc.?
There are a couple being offered in South Florida that I can check out this coming week while I'm there, but unless they accept a really lowball offer I'd rather deal with Al. Any info greatly appreciated. |

Best of the old and the new. When I played Mike's at Amelia I though it sounded very close to the #47RI and the OFC for 1/2 the cost.....plus the contour back.
If I was gonna buy an Adamas today, THE '08 COLLECTORS would be the one! |

| Thanks for the feedback, guys. I gotta go with Tim on this. If the tonal difference between a I, II and 08C is minuscule I'd rather have the broccoli head, ideally a slothead but that ain't likely to happen. If the 08C had a broccoli slothead I would have found some way to convince SWMBO to let me have one by now.
Since I can't afford Cholloway's original slothead, and no one's giving up a 47RI anytime (at least not for much less than Colloway was wanting for his #45), I guess I'm leaning towards a I. Moody, are the necks fatter or skinnier on the I than on the II? |

Interesting the love for the broccoli. I always considered the sound and playability first with the appearance 2nd.
That red does look pretty damn cool. |

To me it just looks like a recycled Eastern European dining table leg. (Sorry to all the Easter Europeans out there.)
Steve, if a guitar REALLY offended you, visually, but played and sounded excellent, would you desire it? I mean, REALLY REALLY offended you? |

Funny, that's exactly how I view the woodbox, squareheads that certain other guitar makers have been producing for quite a number of years. They REALLY just don't appeal to me regardless of how well they may sound or play...
You don't like the broccoli heads on the AD I's, that's fine. I'm not telling you to, it leaves more for me to buy up :D
In the end, it's all just different flavors of ice cream... |

My .02, I have a UTE, 1681 and 1685. I find them ALL to be exceptional guitars and exceptional values. I do "jones" for a broccoli head someday, but these will do me fine until then.
Serge, good luck in your search. I don't think that you can go wrong with any textured top Adamas. |

and just for the record, I do own several of the broccoli headstocks....but once I got the strong desire to own the first one out of the way, it really didn't remain an issue one way or the other for any other Adamii I have since owned. |

| If you not going to go for a collectors from Al, I have an Adamas 1 in the blue with the cutaway body I am still thinking of selling.
These are not easy to find anymore, the cutaway 1's just don't come around much at auction or on a dealers rack.

Dave, Obviously the '48 is the most valuable...and it's right where I can grab it quickly after the wife and kids are safe...But the key here folks is to insure your collection: and that takes getting them appraised (this can be a like item value comparison, or a receipt from a purchase, etc.) and of course Pictures, Pictures, Pictures! Save these in an off site place. |
