Location: SoCal | Don't know if anybody's interested but here's a 1982 1117 Legend on ebay.
What's the big deal about this? Well, this is an acoustic only, A braced, K-bar necked Legend, with a top from a time that Ovation had some really great wood. The 1537 came from this time. I had a 1984 Country Artist cutaway and the wood on that was maybe the most beautiful I have ever seen on an Ovation.... like velvet to look at!
This is a great sounding great looking guitar and the back of it may be the old type of fiberglass rather than the molded material they went to in 1983.
If I hadn't just a year ago had a Legend rebuilt that's now very similar to this one, I'd buy it, move the strap button the the bass side, add a bone saddle and nut, and know that I have an excellent acoustic instrument.

I agree 100% I have a 1117 1982 model...she is warped and cracked, but still beautiful to see and hear...you would think she has a cedar top (the wood has georgous butterscotch tone and grain).
I want to get it out of my classroom (to keep her from getting beat on by teen rock stars) but the kids enjoy playing and hearing her so much, I feel guilty denying them access.

I don't think the people here realize how special the wood was that Ovation had back in the early to mid 1980's. From certain angles, after aging, it looked like velvet, and sounded great. A 27 year old A braced top would be like magic...... |

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | I still have the reminents of a 1537..it is in the closet of a friend back in Minnesota (along with several other guitars of mine). One day a couple years ago, I went to pull her out of the case, and here the bridge had lifted off(taking shards of wood w/her)....I think what may have happened was that I was using some Naptha to try and thoughroughly clean off the soundboard (dirt deep in the many cracks)...I wonder if perhaps I allowed the Naptha to work it's way along/under the bridge? Not sure...but to make a long story a bit longer...I still have her, and she would be an awesome project. The gold tuners are looking good though!

Rich, a year ago I paid a lot more than that to have a new body (with my exact specs) put on my old '78 Legend neck). Last night I played it against my 87C and my OFC guitar (which I still need to sell). Which guitar was best? Well, it wasn't the OFC guitar.... |

Location: Huntington Beach | Moody - I know what you mean about the Legend. I bought my 1617 new in '78. After all the guitars I've bought, sold and played through the years - there's still something special about the look and feel of this vintage. |
