Location: Seattle | So while doing holiday shopping for others I accidentally when into my local guitar center.
In the "used" corner was a immaculate ADAMAS 2080-NWT.
My very first thought was how could she (the guitar ) be placed in such a hostile environment...However being the responsible person I aspire to be,I immediately left (after playing for 20 mins) and resumed my, now delayed, original mission. After all the holiday season is NOT just about me.
After the shopping was complete I just happened to return to GC.
The condition and price of the guitar was right and decided to "just do it".
Card out, palms sweaty, & wondering how I could possibly explain this to SWMBO, got a reality check "time out"....
GC has a 30 day hold on used goods and I can not take possession until it clears the “hot guitar list.”.... @$%^! |

Their liability is definitely hangin' out there. "Whoops, sorry 'bout steppin' thru that plastic git."
I can understand the 30 day wait, but not putting it out 'there'... |

Maybe Kentrookie missed it but at all the GC's I have been to the used stuff has a hold date on the sticker that says when it will be available for sale. If there is not sticker then it is not on hold (unless somebody intentionally removed it trying to beat the system and buy it).....then that's when the computer would catch it at check out.
One of the few things that GC does right in my opinion. |

GC has a 30 day hold on used goods and I can not take possession until it clears the “hot guitar list.”.... @$%^! Talk about a great stroke of luck! Now you can easily roll a little bit of money in there every couple of days for the next month, and then put like $200 on your credit card at the end. When you go home, you tell her that you went into the guitar center and all you had to give them $200 and the guitar was yours! You'll look like quite the savvy shopper, and the envy of all the neighborhood bargain chasers!
Me, on the other hand, had to break the unwelcome news today that I "accidentally" bought another guitar. Right before Christmas. Oops. |

Location: Wiesbaden | My boyfriend in the states is having this one looked over, it's supposed to be a rare model and he heard that some were made with graphite necks and fretboards, whatever difference that makes. The nice gentleman at the Maryland Guitar Center is checking it over for him, if it's one of the few that were made completely of CG it will be his Christmas Gift. These Ovation guitars are so modern looking..he says they are great, I'll just have to wait and see. |

That is the elusive Q!
I am not sure about the graphite neck, but I heard something about that too.
Here is a link to the generic Q model...
But of course we would love a live review. |

Location: SoCal | Welcome G-String.
Your photo looks like an Adamas Q597 (discontinued).
Its squiggly sound holes set it apart from its sibling, the W597.
The Q597 is also listed as having the Advanced Neck System (ANS).
They came in dark gray or cobalt blue.
I have a blue one. It is a very nice playing and sounding guitar.
The neck is wood and it has an OP50 preamp.
Your photo matches a listing from the Guitar Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland... USED OVATION ADAMAS Q597 GRAPHITE (Includes Case). |

The tag said USED $999.xx. The salesman said it has a case.

G-String -- that is NOT one of the Q guitars with the CF neck and fretboard. As Noah said, it is a production version of the 597 guitar with wavy soundholes. While not a lot of them out there, it is not one of the rare Q models ... that is a different beast altogether. |

So what did SantaBobbo buy himself? Apparently, my better half has seen that movie too. ;)
Well it goes like this ... I put in a stupid low bottom-feeders bid on a Book Elite that was up on eBay. I figured it would have been idiotic for the guitar to go for as cheap as what I bid. Apparently, no one is a bigger idiot than me. Fortunately, someone I know has a good sense of humor ... she said "Well at least you now have the guitar to go with the book". |

Adamas 2080-NWT Noah, that's a good price for a mint 2080. I'm lovin' mine more and more every day. The top is so lively and responsive, far beyond what my talents deserve!. I find that I have to make an effort to pull the '07C off the wall rather than the 2080, and that's really saying something.
Strings haven't lasted very long on the 2080, but then I discovered that Sara plays it all the time when I'm not home. I can see now that she'll have to have an Adamas of her own before long (maybe a Kaki King model for graduation). |

After reading here and elsewhere about the quality and quanity of used guitars showing up for sale leads me to believe that the guitar market remains pretty soft. |

I was intrigued so I went to try this one. It was my first encounter with the 2080. Beautiful instrument in beautiful shape. I have played only a handful of Adami - I lean more towards wood. I took it from its perch on the used instrument stage and went to the quiet acoustic room. The strings were dead and horribly out of tune - could loose a shim but the neck is straight.
I'm not diggin' it. The neck is kinda chunky, the high end is pretty clean, but uneven up and down the neck and up and down the strings. The low E is unnaturally overbearing. For reference I pulled down an OMC that had equally dead strings- I preferred its feel and sound.
Every instrument is not a winner, even in the high end - I've played various OMCs and Claptons and Taylors and whatever - they all were beautiful but only the rare one has "it." The sound, the feel, the vibe, the smell.
I went straight home and played my 1617 -it definitely has "it." I played a 1621 once that had "it." My "book" has 9/10ths of it. That new Koa top cutaway Taylor has "it"- I ramble.
So why do I keep trying to find something better? Why do I waste my time? Go ask Tiger. We're just never satisfied. |

I am stunned by how little hype these have received and that they have actually lasted 6 months before almost selling out. |

The first OFC guitar was a really nice, but added to the 33 originals and 80+ of the 47RI's that's quite a lot of that particular guitar type. There will always be one available someplace or another. But not so with the OFC II. Those puppies are rare and soon to be gone, gone, gone. I seriously doubt you will see many change hands. Maybe none. |
