I saw a little newsletter blurb requesting players for "Unplugged on the Patio" at a coffee shop near Brian. This might be a next step for us, or it might not.

They requested some audition information.
Below is the letter I'm thinkin' on sending.
What do you think? To much? To little??

April 24, 2008

To: Caribou Coffee / Mack Ave.

In reference to your “Unplugged on the Patio” request please find enclosed a CD with a few of our offerings.

Before the unfortunate closeing of the “Now & Zen Café" we played there once a month, totally unplugged, for well over a year. We have been part of the “Folkin’ Friday” event at Huber-Breese Music Store for over 3 years and have played for a number of private parties and open mics. Most recently we have played at Jack’s Bar at Emerald City Marina.

There is no problem being totally “unplugged”. In fact, that is the way we always practice. However, we would suggest using a single, small 30 amp amplifier just to thicken the sound a bit. We understand the venue. You want something a little more than background music. Something where people can either choose to listen or carry on a conversation at their table.

Our song list reflects who we are. We are two family guys, one just pushing and one just pulling the age of 50. “Classic Rock” would be the general category but we strive to avoid the cliché music from the era. Although “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is a fantastic song, it seems like everybody plays it. Instead we will play “Two Of Us”. You won’t hear us grinding out any grunge tunes. We like to play songs that the audience knows but has not heard in a while.

If nothing else, we hope you enjoy the CD.
And by the way….. all the songs were recorded live at a venue.

Regards,
Brian Kohler & Brad Durasa

Outstanding! Hope you get the gig.

Just this morning I pulled out the video you sent me from a Folkin' Friday, from what, 3-4 years ago? You guys have improved incredibly. You should have added to the letter that one of your good friends said that they would be lucky to have you two play there.....

Nice, Brad. I think you meant 30 WATT amp. :) If it was me, I'd leave out the whole sentence about While My Guitar - it doesn't add anything and just in case it's the managers favorite. Outside of that, I'm betting you get a gig out of it. MOOSE IT!

Looks great, Brad. I agree with Bob's suggestion about WMGGW. And check your spelling.

How do you guys feel about a thread wherein we publish our current active songlists? My selfish reason is to get some ideas that might not have occurred to me otherwise. Waddaya think?

The letter and CD should easily get you in the door. They will likely want to see and hear you live, and see how you relate to an audience possibly on a trial basis. When dealing with booking agents these days, music quality and repertoire will get you up on stage, but audience appeal will keep you there.
