i love ovation and adamas guitars since the early 80s. i never had any doubt that those guitars would not be great guitars. finally i own an old adamas I from 1978 and i had a black custom legend from 1982. i have a couple of vintage gibsons. when i speak with my vintage gibson and fender friends about my adamas which i really love, they react like, that those guitars are not really great or valuable. many people today treat ovations like sh...
if i look at my adamas i must say it is beautiful and it is made very very well and in highquality in every respect. what the hell happened that only a part of the musicans like ovations. in the 70s and 80s it was t h e acoustic guitar.

Times change.

In my opinion the biggest fault in the public opinion demise of the Ovation that we knew in the 70's is lack of advertising and lack of artist endorsements.

Just look at Taylor, Takamine and Martin for example. They advertise like hell and have artist endorsement lists as long as your arm.

Ovation chose to go another direction and to their credit stayed true to their roots and still today builds guitars as good as, or better, than they did way back when. They just don't get the credit they deserve. Live with it.

IMHO... The Adamas was ahead of it's time. With the recent emphasis on new models, collectors, and (sorry Cliff), the reissues I think (hope) that the future is bright for the line.
Someday, maybe, the world will even be ready for the real Q model.

If Ovation/Adamas went out of business tomorrow it wouldn't effect me in the least because I am already fortunate enough to own some of the finest built guitars they ever made.

It would be said for future generations to not be able to get new Adamii or Ovations but I (selfishly) would be totally covered!

Ya know this is a good point!

I say someone should start an internet forum about these guitars and help give those who feel like our Euro friend a place to discuss this topic in great lenght!

Nahh...what was I thinking, we'll never find anyone that dumb.

Take it with a grain of salt. The same people will talk about your car, what you eat, how you make a living etc... If they talk about your wife or friends well free to put them in their place. Until then just be patient and let them know you will help them find "class"... My .02

I have to add my 2 cents worth. Was Ovation ever considered "GREEN"? The bowl is made of a composite material called Lyracore or fiberglass not a wood product. The tops that are made of graphite and wood are very sensitive to vibration, loud and as clean as any wood instrument. I think the Ovation revolution will continue if the bowl design is reitterated to an acoustic concert hall projecting the soundboard to the sound hole(s) Times are a changin. I am not only a fan I play one everyday.

Look , a Graphite Under/Overlayer , sandwiching a Wooden plate , was Novel 30 odd years ago , and still is , a Technology Unsurpassed even Today , that would make it still " Ahead of it`s time " ..

i really hate when people mention the PLASTIC guitar.
not many seem to know the difference of fiberglass and plastic, and no one seems to know about the graphite/wood/graphite top at all. i got my adamas about a month ago and i play it every day, cant wait to be at home and get my adamas out of the case.

My theory is that many guitarists have picked up a cheap Celebrity or Applause at a music store or a friend's house, and then base their opinion on that. If they managed to find a decent Ovation at GC, the strings were 10 months old and dead as a doornail.

When i was in college in Boulder Colorado, from 78-82, Ovations were all the dorms, and Adamas was as coveted as a high end martin.

My sense of this is that a lot of the current bubble in the acoustic guitar market is driven by aging boomers who have the kids out of the house and are re-entering guitar playing...and in the process they are looking for "authentic" guitars...and that means wood boxes. The whole gestalt of Ovation (better guitars through better technology) is lost on them. Its not about "better". Its about "authentic". Old = good. The older the better. If you can't afford a pre-war Martin, you can at least afford a guitar that looks like one.

Ovation doesn't fit into that model.

But that's ok. It doesn't have to. The guitar market is a big place. What would be the point of being just another wood box maker? None that I can see. Ovation has its place in the market, and with our new corporate overlords, it appears to be secure for now. That's all we need.

I'm with you on the first part, Jeff, but that's about it. When this boomer was a teenager, Ovation was radical and new and that's where many of us wanted to go. Being an individual became so popular that we all became lemmings. Many of us now are picking our guitars back up, but going back to what we wanted as teenagers.
The demand today is with teens and twenty somethings that have way more money than what we did. They like luxury and they like having the latest gadget. They'll pay $150 just for a ticket to a concert. Their choices are influenced almost totally by advertising, but also by the peer pressure that all of us felt. They want what's popular. Unique is not popular.

That's me! But I as a result of coming here to dig up some info on what I bought, I got OGASed.

I was disappointed in the sound quality of the SSB Celeb acoustically. But as a result of the recommendations and info garnered here, I've been moving up the quality scale. With each 'O' I received I thought that it can't any better. WRONG...

The innovations and especially the value of the 'O's and 'A's have not been matched thus far. That's not even considering the unsurpassed customer service provided by the Mothership!

Hopefully sometime in the future my Grandbabies will pull out their 'O's or 'A's and appreciate the USA heritage and quality workmanship!

Oh, I can think of all kinds of things I hope Fender does with the Ovation brand. And I can think of a pretty long list of thing I hope they DON'T do.

Just all depends.

I wonder how Guild fans feel these days. And I know how Tacoma fans feel.
