Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | Is it possible for the mothership to take a model 1758 12 string, remove the pre-amp and cut rectangular hole to fit an Ovation Idea? I don't even have my 1758 yet but I do have an Idea. This seems like it would make a nice upgrade but it might be too expensive to make sense.

I think they prefer not to though but you need to ask. |

Tell them that you have already have the preamp, you just want the can.
Or get the whole OP-Pro... That is a good preamp.
Then they won't think that they are cutting-up a good Ovation to put an iPod in it. :p
Also, the iDea will work in an OP-Pro can, but I am not sure about the other way around.
When I put an OP-Pro into an empty iDea can, it lit-up like it was plugged-in.
I am sure the OP-Pro will work in the iDea can, but think that the battery might drain if you left on in there overnight.
But I am not sure... |

Why? |

Jim, honeypie, IMHO, if you cut up that 12'er to accomodate that iDEA, you are NUTZ. Think of Scotty from Star Trek screaming: DON'T DO IT, MAN! I mean, geez, what do I know, other than I know I'm sweating just thinking about it...

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | It's kind of funny. I have an Idea pre-amp that I'm anxious to try out. But I'm not sure what guitar to put it into. I have an 07 Collectors but I really like its current pre-amp. I might need to get another guitar just to have an Idea guitar. Perhaps a 1778T or something like that. |

Location: Sydney, Australia | Jim, You should just be able to drop the iDea into the can in the 07 collectors. It's a 20 second swap over. Then put the VIP back in when you want to use that. |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | I just took the man hole cover off my 07C and checked things out internally. The job looks pretty straight forward like Tafkar said. So it looks like this is the way to go. Then I can save my money for something special. At the same time, those that were concerned for my new 1758 can put their minds at ease. |

Location: Utah | The iDea will just drop right into that 07C can and be fully functional except for no aux in. If you want the aux in jack for the iDea, you'll have to drill the little hole for it and install it, and replace the can with the iDea can so you can plug it into the preamp. The aux jack allows you to plug in your iPod or other sound source to the iDea.
You can download tracks via USB from your computer to the iDea, so you may not need to install the aux jack, though it would be very simple to install if you want that function. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I just did it and it's not as easy as it may seem. Not imposible, but not easy either. Because of the specific location needed for the new preamp to fit in the contoured side, you will need to be exact. (an you WILL need a GOOD template) You will also have to reconstruct a portion of the bowl with fiberglass filler. Another thing I found out the hard way was that you will also need to glue on a hard backing material where the new can brackets clamp down, or it will push through your new material as you tighten it down. (a thin piece of metal will do). Matching paint for the bowl is not easy either, as you'll need to paint the base coat then come back again and stipple on a semigloss of the same color to match the bowl finish.(it will look crappy if you don't) I haven't posted the picks of the process that I took yet, but I will soon. It is very difficult to do it right with the bowl and top attached because of the lack of working room. It is not however impossible. |
