... I think I'll just listen to the album.

Steely Dan is coming to town and is performing for five or so nights. One night they are going "Aja, plus some other favorites", and andother night "The Royal Scam, plus other favorites" and then repeating them at another venue plus a couple of shows of "internet requests".

Interesting, thinks I ... so I log on this morning and score a couple of seats right near the front. Cool! Except it turns out to be $600. WHAT!! Too rich for my blood. Especially since I just got great second row tickets to L&M for $59 a seat and Works Progress Administration for a measly $15 each. The cheapest seats in the house for the Dan are $99, and then I would need to invest in binoculars.

I know Steely Dan are great artists. But really. $300 a seat in this economy? Do they really thing they can sell five nights of shows at those prices? Maybe they can, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I think I'll cue up Aja, sit back with a bottle of something nice, close my eyes and imagine I'm in the third row, and save $550. And then listen to The Royal Scam for free. With Can't Buy A Thrill as the encore. And I've still got a whole second night of material to enjoy.

Yeowch. Save me a seat and a glass, bobbo. I love the Dan and have seen them several times and I've yet to be disappointed but not at anywhere near those prices. Fo'gettaboutit.

Last I saw, the boys haven't gotten any prettier. For 5fiddy I think you are making a wise choice.

Prices are out of hand!! I personally don't think anyone is worth seeing for that kind of money.

Always one of my favorites...saw them several years ago in Tampa. They were EXCELLENT, but still not worth $600. I wouldn't pay $600 to sit on stage with 'em.

Me either, and it pisses me off! Especially in this economy ... it's like saying "F**k you very much for all your continued support". Donald Fagen's voice starts to annoy me after a few songs anyway, although I do have their Aja album ... as for their looks, ugh! H O M E L Y!!

Mike (Crimson Lake) said that at a recent concert to see the Killers at PNC in Monmouth County NJ he had to pay $14 for a BEER!

seen them several times.

loved them each time

never got anything but the cheap seats but that goes for all the shows I go to.

I would love to sit down and talk with becker and fagen they seem like they would be good sparing partners.

The allure of SD (back in the day) was that ...

1. Their LPs were incredibly well produced
2. They employed the best of the best studio musicians
3. They had a mystique of never touring

Once they finally did hit the road, I'm afraid all three of the above went right out the window.

In a radio interview that I remember hearing...

Q- "Why is it that you guys never Tour?"

A- "Can you imagine having to play 'Ricky Don't Lose That Number' a dozen times a week?"

My thought was, "If you Know that song sux, why did you publish it and allow corporate radio to force it down our throats for Decades?" (I have never met anyone that Likes that song.)

Okay? I stand corrected. (But I have never actually 'met' you)

But as to ticket prices... After going to the 'California World Music Festival' in 1978 and seeing 14 'Named Bands' (including Van Halen, Toto, Aerosmith, and Cheech & Chong) for $15...
I just have sticker shock every time I see ticket prices.

Having seen ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, The Band, Joan Baez, Jefferson Airplane, Pete Seeger, and a bunch of others For Free doesn't help that attitude either...

Even I wouldn't pay that, but I know many many people who would.

That is totaly absurd about the $600 price for tickets, regardless of the economy.

No, thanks. I suffered through the USC vs. OSU game. Tressel ball is boring.I tried to get the wife to sell the tickets but she's your typical OSU grad.

My son and I pick one random big game a year and experience a different football town. This year it's Nov 7th at State College PA. Last year was Oklahoma, before that Notre Dame, LSU and Michigan. It's a nice tradition.

Pick Colorado in a couple/three years. If all goes well, I may be able to swing some really good seats. ;)

NICE! I think that's the same team that got their arses buff'ed last time they visited Tempe. They could use some players.

I dunno. We're trying to avoid repeats and we already saw the Gators a few years ago at LSU. Also we try to stick to Conference games. Next year is already planned (Auburn), but maybe 2011 who knows ...
