| for an electric guitar? I have enough for several bodies...bark attached still.. and poured over in lacquer.....at least I believe it to be a lacquer as it fogs in the finish with any moisture, very thick finish on top... and just a poured finish, I don't think an acrylate would cloud like this..
underside is still raw cyprus and no finish, it's lived most of it's life outdoors, at least as long as we've had it...
I lost count at 300+ rings, 2" thick, cut on bias, about 8' Long.... currently a Florida Cyprus Souvenir Table from the 40's or 50's, the legs and base are cyprus knees...
just thinking out loud...
any opinions?

| sorry for the bad spelling on my part, just looked up items made from cypress.... very pricey.
MWoody? or anyone have a good planer?

I don't know about the density of Cypress wood, but it should Look really Purdy!

| just took the dimensions of the table, it's actually just over 6 1/2 feet long and has a 10" radius from the sapling rings, which there are actually 2 of at the heart spread about 4 inches apart.
the conservative guess at aging is supposed to be 30+ years per inch.. so should be right around 300 years old. not ancient for cypress, but...
it's 2" thick including the poured finish which is just about 1/8" or a little more/less on the top.. it's up on multiple knees as support some with up to a 5 or 6 inch radius each on the bottom or more..
I'm recharging the camera for pics now..

Found a Spanish cypress guitar HERE. That grain looks a lot tighter than our southern 'cousin'.

| I'm not suggesting anyone cut this for forming, bending, or veneer as it is bias cut, the actual tree's diameter is just over 20 inches but it's not pecky or any holes in it other than from the screws that attach the knees to the boards that attach it to the top.
I guess it could be cut for veneer. but the rings per inch count does go down with the length..
would make a couple of good solid bodies though I believe. and very pretty grain, which would be bright yellow/orange when planed off..
like I said, just thinking out loud, and I've been searching for another like it online and can't find one..
It basically is surf board shaped, and about the same length.

| while I'm waiting for the camera to recharge, I did find a bias cut piece/slab that is 8'6" and 10" wide with lots of burls..
mine is 6'5" long and twice as wide 20" same cut but saplings/burls are centered in the ellipse and only 2 very close together.
same color and graining.

| finally got the pics, sorry for the mess on the back porch.. don't use it in the summer.. and it faces the woods, and no other apartments.
I believe a couple of skim passes with a planer one each top and bottom..and you'd have some nice blank/body material
if anyone wants the knees for carving or making lamps or anything else let me know..
