Based on my "In The Door" picture series from summer 2008, here's my first look at my rebuilt "Book" Elite 1768 Customized LTD. Folks, this is one of the SINGLE nicest guitars to come out of New Hartford....BAR NONE! I still can't believe it's now sitting in my closet.
Standing in the door...
The new top to replace the one cracked in shipping and sporting a carved ebony bridge...
Here are the epaulettes close up and again, a little of the bridge showing...
Glossing the neck makes all the difference in the world...
Don't believe me? Look closer...
And one last parting shot form the venerable, old door...
Slipkid? I put these up because they mimic the shots from last year's calendar. But wait until you see what I'm putting together to send you. Check your PM's.
Ooooohhh! Mysterious... :p |

Sometime soon I've got to carve out some time to A-B it with my 87C. I can tell that it sounds a little different, but I'm not sure how yet. But any way around, it's a tone FREAK! And I mean that in a good way.
A very good way. |

Beautiful guitar. It's amazing, to my eyes, how much of a difference glossing the neck/headstock makes in the appearance of the guitar. I always thought the wood looked cheap and that Ovation, when they stopped glossing, had just gone to a cheaper wood. Seeing the before and after of several of Witko's guitars, I realized the part (appearance wise) that glossing makes.... |

(Haven't for a long time in fact.)
New top, new bowl, refinished neck....the thing is all but new I guess. It sure looks it! :D
I played it in church this morning, and it's everything you would expect it to be. A very nice instrument indeed!
As a related aside, I left three non-gloss necks at the factory while I was there. Guess what's gonna happen to'em? ;) |

Location: SoCal | The Prof is right. Get the guitar out. I've got guitars around the house on stands and on the wall. My kids are now teenagers and we've always had dogs. Neighborhood kids come in and play my guitars.
Never had any damage to any guitar resulting from the above. If the guitars are locked in cases or in the closet (unless it's Witko's closet --- gotta see it to understand) they won't be played and enjoyed..... |

Some day they'll all have their place in a music room alongside the concert bass, the antique cello, the irish tin whistles, the bodhran, and whatever else wanders through my door in the meantime. |

I re-sized all of those pics, and they only cross about half of my laptop screen. Strange.
So here's the question for you photo-know-everythings: What's the optimum width (number of pixels) that's the best fit here? The ones on this thread were all re-sized to 1000 pixels wide.
I HATE sideways scrolling.
So Moody? Sorry about that. I thought I'd fixed'em so there would be no problems.
And about my guitar closet. I realize no one else around here has this issue, but frankly I've got more guitars than I have space. But don't worry, none of them are left to languish. I try to use different guitars every week for practice and for church.
Decisions...decisions...Which one to play today? Bet it's the Book. I just got it ya know. :D  |

All your pics fit on my 17" laptop without any horizontal scrolling.
Paul,
What is your monitor resolution set to? |

Location: Tennessee | I have to scroll this thread on my laptop ... my monitor is resolution is 1280 x 800 but I don't have my windows completely maximized since I always have multiple windows open and like to click between them. I used to have a resolution of 1600 x 1200 on my 15.4" screen, but the eye doctor told me I didn't need glasses, I just needed to change the monitor resolution. No problem on the Mac since that monitor size is four acres. The iPhone automatically sizes the pictures and text to fit. Paul ... you can solve your problem by buying Apple!
I generally size my pictures to a maximum width of 800 pixels.
On topic ... Patch, that is beautiful but it has got me wondering ... am I the ONLY person that thinks the natural oil rubbed necks are the only way to go and that the gloss necks just don't have that smooth, great feel? |

I like the feel of both types of finish, but the hand-rubbed finish gets glossed over time where my hand gradually polishes the neck. This leads to the length of the neck being glossed while the headstock and heel are still satin-looking. I personally don't care for that look, so I like to go glossed from the beginning. It's all personal preference of course. That's what makes it fun. :D |
