Isn't it amusing how we try to please people we care about and it kinda backfires?

Alison's Grandma story jolted a few memories about the times I didn't want to hurt a loved one's feelings...

My Mom and her infamous shrimp dip! I loved it at first. But although she continued to use the original recipe, some ingredients were no longer available and she had to substitute. Not da same... I never let on...

While dating Patty, my future M-I-L made some type of sour cream balls that made my stomach and toes curl. "Ummm, Mrs. C, thanx!" After a few years, Patty finally told her I had lost my taste for 'em.

Newly married, Patty had (and still has) a mean spaghetti and meat balls recipe that was sumptuous. But after two weeks of marital bliss and a steady diet of S&MBs, I finally said, "Baby, I love you dearly, but the S&MBs have got to take a rest!" I've prepared many meals since then...

Green jello? JELLO?!?! Fagitaboutit! My visits to the PI and RVN erased any appreciation for ANY type of gelatin as a dessert, salad or beverage. I'll take green ham and eggs before any jello...

Wow, That's a really fascinating and relevant post on a website called "The Ovation Fan Club"

So, my early 70's 1617 has some string imbalance issues. Should I inject green jello under the saddle and see if it helps?

Maybe this topic is just a tiny insight into why anyone who actually has an interest in music, or Ovations or guitars generally, are looking elsewhere.

And in the long run, it was good for us to tell little white lies to make our loved ones feel good. She used to listen to me play guitar when I was just learning and always said it sounded good, so I guess I wasn't the only one who made things up to spare hurt feelings.I would eat nothing but green jello at every meal for the rest of my life if I could get my Grandma back. But at least I know she was aware of how much I loved her.

Hmmm...sometimes I see a subject posted that I'm not interested in. I guess maybe I'm supposed to bash and insult the person that posted it. Silly me, I just click the back button and go on to the next topic. I didn't realize that really mature people always respond with snide remarks.

Yes, maybe. But posting it here is ridiculous, you know that, I know that, and so do countless thousands of people who come here expecting to interact with musicians, or at least aspiring musicians, not a f**kin home ecomomics class.

OK. I'm done, for good.

Paul, go read the "Wayne Kerr" thread please. Then tell me which topic YOU think might put people off.

So insightful. The first thing I thought of was the number of times I DIDN'T take the other's person's feelings into consideration.

This reminds me of something I heard..we have plenty of smart people in the world..we need more nice people. Thanks for a good post.

So who gets to decide what is ridiculous? Is there some kind of thought police going around?

I really came close to not posting my question about guitar tab with intros. Why? Because I know that some members of the "old guard" probably has read the same question over and over. IOW, it would be a ridiculous question because the answer is so obvious to those who have been playing for a long time.

No one should be made to feel this way. We can say "it's just the internet" as many times as we want, but the internet postings don't just happen by themselves. There are real people asking real questions.

In the other guitar forums I have the priviledge of being on, the forums have separate sections for OT items, guitar, bass, amp and computer questions. Guess what? They manage to have some fun along with the serious guitar topics too.

BTW, Iffy answered my question in the guitar tabs thread. Apparently Iffy is only supposed to talk guitar stuff and not have a little fun once in a while?

Or is it supposed to be only the kind of fun you can have when you are in a boy's locker room?

It seems to me that now that some more girls have moved in, we're upsetting the apple cart a little bit.

Michelle

Hey, Michelle. I noticed the same thing about the tabs. We've had questions about what are the best tab sites, where the answers are really helpful. Also, things change or we lose track of some of the recommendations. Even if someone posts a link to an old thread, it reminds me where to find the old thread. I still remember when I worried that I pissed off Cliff. But after awhile I got some satisfaction out of it.
