just been looking into the copyright issues around releasing a CD containing covers of other peoples recordings.
Seems that if the arrangement is the same then I don't need permission from the artist but I do need a Limited Manufacture Licence. Turns out then for a CD containing more than 25 minutes of music for 21-50 CDs it will cost £30. That's not as much as I thought it might be. :) |

Location: Brighty in Blighty | In the UK it's through PRS (www.prsformusic.com), in the USA it's Harry Fox I think (www.harryfox.com).
Obtaining a Limited Manufacture (LM) license couldn't be easier, create a free account, enter the details, i.e. how many minutes is on the CD, how many copies and pay the money. Job done and I feel happy in the knowledge that it's all legal and the original artists are getting their dues.
I'm going to also look into the cost of being able to provide full tab/music score for the album too! |
