This is the "Big Weekend" for our town, with a three day Harvest Festival, where we have a parade, fair, talent contest a three days of music at the new performing arts pavilion. I have to get everything set up and ready for that, and I'll also be managing the sound and lights for the events. O% The whole "lighting thing" is completely new to me and there's no one in the area with experience in it, SO ... once again, I get to learn something new. This is also the day my son and daughter-in-law leave for deployment and leave their babies with us for the next 7 months.

Going down the shore for the last time this season.

Surfing (if the water and weather cooperate, right now rough surf and rips are being forecasted)

Playing guitar out on the porch

Maybe one or two last walks on the boards

...and simply relaxing.

Then cleaning and packing up Sunday night, hitting the road early Monday to beat the traffic.

We're going to an acoustic jam and BBQ on Saturday. Burgers and chips are on the menu. It should be fun except for being in a no-alcohol park.

Going up to the cabin. Boat ride, if it starts, and pull it out of the lake, probably for the season. Finish a little project, cut some wood and get back in time for SWMBO to go to work Sunday evening.

My weekend isn't nearly as exciting as others. Mine is the same as any weekend...working. Monday is my usual day off so nothing different there either---sleep in and eat whatever I happens to have on hand.

If the weather holds off*, Monday I will be going to "Hands Across The Bridge" and "Oxfest"...
A bunch of drug addicts all in one place Not committing crimes and getting busted.
We will occupy the I-5 Interstate Bridge at noon, then gather in Vancouver, WA for a concert and BBQ.

Compilation of News clips from previous years... YouTube

Oxfest 2007

Oxfest 2008

BTW-- I don't go just to see the bands, and these are the only bands with YT clips...
(There are usually a bunch of bands, about an hour apiece)
I go to see how my 'Clean' Brothers & Sisters are doing and support them in Recovery.

Going to Valparaiso Indiana to watch my son run his first cross country meet of the collge season and then heading back up the Michigans UP to hike the trail at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. About 35 miles in 3 days. Wish me luck! A lot to pack into 4 days!

Well, take-up space! :p

BTW-- The bridge is over 3,500 ft (1km) long, and we fill it up! Just down one sidewalk tho...

When we all stop to hold hands, we usually fill the bridge from end-to-end, shoulder-to-shoulder.

Going to run the store all week-end. Monday, after I close I'll be going to a birthday party with lots of musicians attending. Not sure which guitar I'll be bringing yet, but if music is what's on the menu, I'm happy.

Since we'll be camping (sorry, RVing. I've been in enough tents in my life...), The wife takes care of the menu. Looking forward to seeing Iffy, Blues, Darkbar, and maybe a new face. Philly cheese steaks at the Boiler Room, Playing guitar, cooking out, swimming, drinking, etc... Can't wait. We'll be cutting out of here tomorrow early. Yeah!

Hmm,I'll be working 12-14 hours in the hot sun, poor me.
It could be worse, I could be in one of the Marine Corps' taxi-cabs (a navy boat) or I could be living in a tent eating MRE's 2 out of 3 meals a day.
They actually have pretty good food here.
Twice a week they serve Steak (welfare steak, but it tastes decent and at least it's real meat, the hamburgers here have never seen a cow), Shrimp (bugs, I don't eat 'em), and Lobster (bigger bugs and again, I don't eat 'em).
I assume that's what they'll serve for Labor Day.
Interestingly enough, I was born on Labor Day the (1st) and so was my brother (the 5th, 8 years apart).

Changing the plugs and wires on my wife's Buick, taking the boys to see the movie "Up", then having mesquite grilled rib-eyes, king crab legs, and Olathe Sweet Corn for dinner. I haven't looked at the rest of the menu for the weekend yet.

Plugs and wires are done!

Best of luck with the carb Joe. Sank the float, eh? I don't miss the days of working on carburetors. I haven't rebuilt one in almost 20 years.

Iffy, dinner's been moved back to 5:00 P.M. on Monday. BYOB. We'll be at the house with the flag out front. :D

Today, nothing special--just running a few errands.
Tomorrow, picnic with my church care group after church; hot dogs and hamburgers (bringing the fruit salad.) Not bringing a guitar, as I don't think we'll be doing any singing.
Monday, surf-and-turf with my guitar student's family (bringing the coleslaw.) Will probably tote along the Princess, just in case I go & play bluegrass afterwards.
Tuesday, back to "same old, same old."

Had a great visit today with MM & family. Got to do some picking & singing, tossed enough food on the BBQ to feed an army then played in the pool with the kids. MM was totally impressed with the OFC II and played some kickbutt blues on the Gretsch 6120. I feel truly blessed to have the OFC friends that I've gained over the last few years.
Hope all of you a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!

Well, I don't know what I'm going to do. I may go with a friend to see the Woodstock Museum in Bethel, NY. It is about a 2 hour drive one way from my house.

If I don't do that, I will probably go and have lunch by the river. I will get some guitar playing in, though.

T'n'T

We arrived backhome at midnight after a nine hour drive...I'm feeling a bit roadworn this morning...Haven't had a chance to upload my pic's yet but will soon...

I just want to echo what Tim said: we are blessed by the friends we have met and continue to meet...And Tim and Melissa were the consumate hosts: Food? are we talking Food? Only the best cookout in a long, long while...I am sure that a small army would not have finished it all; but we did put a dent in it; (no need for Pierce's Pitt this trip)...and we did have a blast picking and jammin...Tim has worldclass guitars and we took full advantage of his music room...and yes, I was/am blown away with the OFC II guitar...elegant, stealthy, but most of all fantastic sounding and effortlessly playable...it is too cool for words...
And to top it off, we had a great time in the pool; Tim and I had to rescue my 2 1/2 year old son who turned submarine while trying to move from one float to another...one of those "it happened in a flash" moments...but he was fine although it added several more grey hairs to my beard and head...the kids did have a great time: my daughter took the picture of the group on the first try...
We just want to thank Tim and Melissa so much for the great time, food, and fun. Wonderful classic Southeastern Virginia hospitality at it's finest...we hated to leave but we are hoping to return the favor with their visit to our Casa...I'll post pic's as soon as I upload some...
Thanks folks so very much!

MM and family

So, I went with a few thousand recovering addicts and took over a bridge.
[I am not a photographer, and neglected to take many pics]
Remember, this bridge is over a kilometer long and we filled it from end-to-end.

We waited for the tugboat to sound it's horn when we would all hold hands up high...

I couldn't take a photo while we held hand, cuz my hands were full! :p

After that we went to a concern/fair in the park... (No pics but this one)
These were the Bluez Cruizers and they were very Good!

I left when the Heavy Metal Death Rockers came on. I won't criticize anybody's choice in music.
But Recovery Metal is kinda like Christian Death Metal. It just don't do it for me...
But I did get myself an appropriate T-shirt! :D

Been dere, Done dat, Got the T-shirt.

It was either this or the one that looks like a "West Coast Choppers" logo
but it sez "Clean & Sober"...
The lady was selling a trailer load of them, hoodies, hats, tank-tops, etc...
Everybody has one of them, but this shirt was the only one she had and I bought it.

Cool, OMA! I'm glad you had fun, and I think it's great that everyone got together like that. And I love the shirt. I doubt if there are many of us here who haven't visited that particular creek, but the important thing is that none of us has fallen in and drowned (yet). Happy Labor Day!

Just got back from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. 30+ miles in 2.5 days with 2 overnights at primitive campgrounds. It is hard to believe something so beautiful exists in Michigan. Great fun but lots...did I say lots of hiking. (no guitar for 4 days!) Too many photos to post but a link is here if you feel so inclined:

This is a pic from Twisted that deserves a look.

What looks like a branch spanning the gap is acually the tree's root system. It draws water from the other side. I have pics of the same tree but from the water side.
