My life's tales came(or were) not cheap,
and while I thought they were all mine,
they are now...
Three for a quarter, and one for a dime.

And they're playing my story one song at a time
My life's tales were not cheap, and I thought were all mine.. but, they're now..
three for a quarter, and one for a dime..

Most every day in my old home town
Never sounded sad, he never looked sore
He just serenaded every smile and frown
He sang;
Life is a jukebox
You drop your dime
Dance your music
Sing that rhyme
Life is a Jukebox
You make your choice
Won't last forever
So just rejoice |

I thought these songs were not cheap,
and at least were all mine,
but looks like they're three for a quarter,
and one for a dime.
there, I think that's better.

life is a jukebox and it chooses the rhymes,
while I live out its verses one song at a time

| A Troubadour man,
My young wanderlust ways
spent tripping and stumbling
most times in a haze
a cup of coffee, a biscuit
a shop down the line
three for a quarter,
and one for a dime. |

| I married my sweetheart
and children came, three
we argued forever,
she said cuz of me
our children are hungry
I said stop your whine
she said their food's but a quarter
all you have is a dime |

| sing with me now..
life's like a jukebox it makes up the rhymes
while I play out its verses one song at a time
my tunes cost me dearly,
and I thought were just mine
but at three for a quarter
their price was not fine |

| an old man grown lonely
his days poorly spent
drawn to an old church house
feel it's time to repent,
tell the man at the pulpit
my soul feels entwined,
he says hold on to your quarters,
and share all your dimes,
with God's world your garden,
your life will be fine,
put one hand on my shoulder
and his other held mine,
I queried my debt, and asked what I owed
he said it's not up to me, His plan is your road. |

If they're costing you dearly, well then maybe it's
time,
prayers and love are free, you should give them a try. |

What ever happens to wishes and dreams?
The ones that come true you can see
What about the others, do they just get lost in time? well they're
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
Life is like a juke box but you can't choose the tunes
You give it your best and pay your dues
You know it aint easy, you got to follow all the signs, its
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
(F) The grass ain't always greener
(c) On the other side
(F) That ranks right up there
(C) With life's most famous (G) lies
The collection plate in church got passed around
I thought about the bum I saw downtown
He held out his hat to me
For spare change I'll dance and sing
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
I got a juke box in my garage out back
Sitting right next to my 59 Cadillac
Neither one works too good
Some day I'll fix them like I should, till then its
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
Three for a quarter, one for a dime
(F) Three for a quarter
(C) One for a dime
(F) A small enough price to pay
(C) Don't get left be(G)hind
repeat verse two and fade to black |

It was a long time ago
But the words kept me sane.
I knew what I had to do, where to go
Once I heard those magic words
A hundred times I played that song.
A hundred dimes down the drain.
Put in your money,
Get out your song.
Listen to the lyrics
Hearing your truth.
How do they do it?
How do they know? (Jukebox, Jivebox)
Now that I'm old, getting grey,
A little wisdom found.
I don't care what you do or where you go
Wish I'd never heard those magic words
A hundred times I played that song.
A hundred dimes down the drain.
Put in your money,
Get out some song.
Listen to the lyrics
Thinking its truth.
How do they do it?
How do they know? (Jukebox, Jivebox)
It's not a box O'Truth
It's just a box full of Jive
The singer don't know me
There are no magic words.
A hundred times I played that song.
A hundred dimes down the drain.
Put in your money,
Get out their song.
It's all just a scam
Nothing like the truth.
Sell you a story
Take it to the bank (Jukebox, Jivebox)
A hundred times I played that song.
A hundred dimes down the drain. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | OK, let's close the loop.
Here's how the song ended up and I played it in A, not C, which allowed for a nice intro and outro lick.
My thanks to Otto for the suggestion of the "three for a quarter, one for a dime" line and to Glenn for the idea for the second verse.
I got second out of 8. Not bad for going first.
That's $50 and it goes to the Humane Society on the Island for dog food.
FlySig, I gave Darby a copy of yours. It may get used in the future as well. He sends his thanks too.
Three for a Quarter 4-20-08
What ever happens to wishes and dreams?
The ones that come true you can see
What about the others, do they just get lost in time? well they're
Three for a quarter, one for a dime (2x)
Life’s a juke box but you can't always choose the songs
You put in your money sometimes it comes out wrong
You just take the punch, and move on down the line, its just
Three for a quarter, one for a dime (2x)
The grass ain't always greener On the other side
That ranks right up there With life's most famous lies
The collection plate in church got passed around
I thought about the bum I saw downtown
He held out his hat to me, For spare change I'll dance and sing

Neither one works too good, Some day I'll fix them like I should,
Three for a quarter, one for a dime (2x)
Three for a quarter One for a dime
It’s funny how all the little things, So control our lives
Here we go again, one more time around
Loving this Island life we have found
Hanging here with all our friends
Hoping time just never ends, I’ll gladly pay
Three for a quarter, one for a dime (2x) |
