Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming | I was just in one of my local pawnshops and saw hanging, a nutmeg 1651 (serial 219832). This thing looks brand new with the exception of a few tiny cracks along the ivory binding on the neck. I couldn't really feel them when I ran my finger along the side of the neck. Very minor. There is virtualy no fretboard or fret wear. Stereo output. The front finish and back are perfect - like new - as is the neck. On the top of the headstock the finish is chipped a tiny bit but almost unnoticable. And it has an excellent brown case. They have it marked $495. I can probably get it for $430 or so. Sounds like a good deal. Is it? |

Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming | I'm buying this 1981 beauty tomorrow. I will post pictures ASAP as it is in incredible shape. But I'm looking for is an Elite, so if there is any interest in this one out there in a trade I'd might consider it. I doubt if there are many 1651's out there that look this good. |

That is nice! Deep bowl, right? Yummy! If you had said you were looking for an Eclipse, I'd be up all night thinking about it! |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Hang onto that one, and if you ever do decide to let it go, offer it to the OFC members first. These are relatively rare as they were produced for only two years (1981-1982) and are recognized as very good quality models. |

Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming | I would never take this baby to the Bay without offering it up on this site first. I would never have had the smarts to buy this one if I didn't spend time gaining knowledge on this site. But, als, when you find something like this, you tend to want to keep it, at least for a little while. When it told the wife that I just had to have this one, she said, "Well, I guess if it's that great, go get it". When I brought the guitar home and opened the case, she said it was the most beautiful guitar she'd seen. I was really impressed with that for someone whose never really said anything like that about any of my other gits. |

We could compare our 1651s. I bought mine new and it was my only guitar for 20 years. Watch for jam announcements over the summer. |

If you're not doing anything on the 4th of July, come out to WA for the big NW gathering, and bring that baby along!

Location: Yakima WA | I just bought a 1651 on eBay - it is out for delivery right now according to the UPS tracking website. Price with shipping was $227. It has a chip in the headstock and apparently the electronics are on the fritz, but I figured the price was right. This will be my second Ovation - my first was a base model celebrity which (gone now) kind of turned me off of Ovations, but I will be back on the wagon now with this 1651. When I get it, I will post a picture - and try and figure out the missing link of the electronics. |

Seriously, these are great guitars. Under valued and under appreciated. You should like it a lot.... |

| The label on the pictured 1651 does not coincide with the years of production of this particular model. Therefore, it appears that the pristine condition may be due to a factory refurbishing at some time after the early 1990's, when the pictured label first appeared.
This guitar could have experienced some type of major overhaul, necesitating the change of the label. Or, it could simply be that the label was missing and the factory replaced the original label with the current edition.
Incidentally, as has been mentioned various times on this board, the 1651 was the end of the original run of the "Patriot" guitar from 1976, which commemorated the 200th anniversary of the United States. According to Ovation advertising, the mold was to be destroyed for the stencil after the first 1,776 Patriots, thus, as a result, the 1651 was born as the exact same guitar without the stencil. |

As to chips and cracks...search the archive & vault. A lot you can do, just need a little confidence. |

Just got her back from the local shop for a setup and nice clean job. Electronics work - now that I have a new battery - but they short out on 3 of the strings similar to another post regarding 1651's and their electronics. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with my eBay purchase. The top has some really cool looking grain patterns, and it doesn't sound to bad either. The gouge out of the headstock doesn't really bother me.
What would be my best route if I decide to ship this to Ovation to have them do some repairs? I have looked a little on the website and was thinking of the email option. |

| did they make a stereo 1651?
does the guitar have 2 output jacks?
are the strings that are not signaling alternate as in every other string? and possibly a stereo opp installed when repaired by someone by mistake? instead of a standard?
or maybe a stereo preamp is in it?
or maybe it's just a plum wore out pickup... anyway, unplugged I'm sure it sounds wonderful, and good luck in getting the pickup/preamp/wiring sorted out. The factory can hook you up with any of the above you might need, and is usually a more-than-fair price for the components.

Location: Yakima WA | It does have stereo and mono outputs. I either get sound from E, D, and B or A, G, and e depending on which one I plug into. I don't know alot about wiring so I can't tell if anything has been done to the outputs or not. I'm sure I'll eventually just send it in to have it figured out. |

| I just revived an ad I placed a year ago for a 1651. I got cold feet back then, but am now ready to sell it again. It is in the Classified section. Pictures available.
