Location: Newington, CT | There are some reasons -- usually having to do with server storage; enforcing image size constraints; having to deal constantly with the "How do I..." questions; etc. -- but the objections can be oversome by knowing how the internet operates, and putting a fairly simple FAQ's page that tells essentially the same thing as the "How to post an image" page.
This is all dependent, of course, on the mechanism being the same as the image-posting mechanism. And, it probably should be, because that method demands the least from server resources.

Location: Brighty in Blighty | What are you on about? That sounds like a cut and paste from somewhere.
The forum software supports it and avatars are usually TINY (i.e. 50k or so). |

Location: Newington, CT | Lol! Not a cut and paste...I'm a former (and future, I hope) internet consultant...I was just trying to imagine why someone wouldn't enable it.
I know internet stuff from a very low level -- servers, drives, protocols, RAM and resource use, etc.
However, I admit freely, that I'm ignorant of the nuts and bolts of a lot of the front-end applications that generate a forum such as this one. I used to deal with the servers they crashed and had to reverse engineer what the heck happened. Usually it was the overwhelming of a resource (storage space, RAM, bandwidth, cache, etc). |

Do you really want to be reminded what some of the members look like?
After all, we have the Ning site with all the bells & whistles and folks decided they like this better.
The technology changes daily.
Ten years ago, Windows98 was state-of-the-art (for PC)...
Now they have Vista, which only goes to show that 'New' doesn't always mean 'Better' :p
If you go to the BC Rich Players Community, they have photos in the sig line...
The novelty of that wears-off Real Quick! |

| Besides, not everyone uses a pic of themselves. Some use famous people, a cartoon character or a pair of shoes. The list is endless. |

Location: NJ | the problem is you can link pictures from many places. these places can show up where the workplace monitors your computer usage.
so you open up a thread with 20 posts and it shows 20 different websites that you are visiing.
the other reason is I really don't want to police the images that people post. As you are aware some can post some questionable stuff. |

Location: Chicago | Yeah, the "Dobro" resonator guitar was named after me! True story, suppressed by "The Man": I can't collect any royalties, no nuthin' When I make a noise, men in black come to my door. So I added a letter, changed my first name and play OVATION guitars just to shake the hellhounds from my tail.
I even wrote a song about it:
I lit out from reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds
Didnt get to sleep last night till the morning came around.
Set out runnin but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight, I just might get some sleep tonight. |

| If people really feel that posting a picture of themselves is a good idea then they could most likely past a photobucket link into every post..lol |

K-I-S-S.. want a profile with an "all about you..," sounds just like the thing for a Social Network... Ovation FanCLub Social Network. http://ovationfanclub.ning.com/
Also.. FYI the latest version of UBB.Classic is only 6.7.3. |
