Done!

I have e-mailed Judy to notify her that we are desirous of taking over her place on the weekend of the 5th, 6th and 7th of June.

As I have more updates, I will pass them along immediately!

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh...Would you all please let me know who will be attending?

Thanks!

I'll be there!!!!!

Again, I won't be needing a room as I live 25 mins away.

I will throw this out. If Anyone wants to go but due to finances feel they can't, if you don't mind a couch or cot I can let a couple of you stay at my Apt to help aliviate some cost.

Better be careful. Bad things happen when Toby "aliviates" himself.

I would assume if "Toby" can make it out from
Az. he can afford a room.
I'll buy some extra candles and a case of Air freshner just in case. ;)

BT717 candles mean matches. That may not be the best thing if Tobinski can make it from AZ. We may all have gas when we get together but his may be of the methane variety.

Sorry, Alan. We don't mean to hijack your thread. Look over some of the old threads announcing earlier gatherings, though, and you'll see all manner of tangents and useless asides. It's all part of the fun & close friendships many of us share, and a way to let off steam in anticipation of the event. Eventually, folks get back on topic (only to go off, then back on, etc.).

Alan,
Since last Thanksgiving I have been making monthly trips to West Hartford. My mother-inlaw sold her house in New York and is now living with my sister-inlaw. I will let my family know to keep that weekend available.

I am sure Alan has me down Mark, my response was a while before this thread was even posted. Several of us responded in the last thread not just myself. I don't plan to get a room and I think Alan needs to give the people at the Hotel an idea of the number people traveling who need a room ASAP to reserve the space and the rooms.

From there I suppose as it gets closer credit cards will be needed o reserve rooms officially. But what do I know I have not organized one of these before.

I suppose a lot of us were thinking there might be a Factory thing anyway this year and had not seriously considered a gathering. I have no Gig's for this weekend so far and don't plan to take any unless they are lucrative. Even then I can find time to run out for a few hours. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive for me.

How nice it would be if I was within a 2 1/2 hour drive rather than 2 days of flying. I checked on flights, but will have to stay closer this year. We'll be spending a week in Vermont in the summer of 2011, so maybe I'll see some of you guys and the Northeast for the first time then.

Nope... she shot it down. She wants to go to the shore as much as possible. Oh well... back to the beach and playing on the porch.

Hey Al, any chance of a get together in North Wildwood, NJ?

I'm in. I have a portable 8 channel PA/sound system (Fender passport pd-500). I could bring that if it would be of use.

Wonderful! I think that I have an offer from elsewhere for a PA as well...let me check. Not sure if "the more the merrier" applies here (with regard to PA's, that is).

I shouldn't butt in, but that's the way I am. Are you sure you guys can use a PA? From what I saw, the hotel lobby was the place for jams and wasn't really set up for performances. More like sit on the couch and play together. Sort of like those Southern guys do it.

In the lobby you might have to get permission for amplified stuff.
The front desk needs to be able to do business.
Do they charge for the conference rooms??

By June this might be able to spill outside on the veranda with the PA. Perhaps there is an area for this? Perhaps not?

Not exactly sure how the gatherings go ,but, I will assume that someone offers up a song and sings, someone else will throw some fill and lead in while others are playing chords. If thats the case and they don't allow us to plug everyone in, I have a Fishman Loudbox 100 2 channel amp for the singer and lead to plug in, IF needed and allowed.

Just an opinion from someone who likely won't be there, but as things have gone in the past....

The Homewood Suited LOVES the OFC. The times I made arrangements with them they had employees ASKING to work the shifts we were there. They have conference rooms. The Lobby is setup where it's not a real intrusion unless it gets loud and to my knowledge there are no rooms off the lobby.

In any case, just talk to them. Guests of the hotel stopped by as well. The hotel is not in a "tourist" area, it just happens to be close to the airport, so they get a lot of stop-over and business traffic.

Also... don't over-think it. (yeah, that was mr. A-R programmer/Geek that said that).

"but, I will assume that someone offers up a song and sings, someone else will throw some fill and lead in while others are playing chords. " It's kinda like that... but not as organized... It just comes together. Sometimes people listen, sometimes play. As I think Beal mentioned... just build it... they will come.

Amen and double-amen! Excitement and a bit of jitters. I don't want people to come from far away and have anything less than a GREAT time!

IF the front office is OK with it, a small amp/PA might be nice for a vocalist. When you get 6 to 12 Ovations/Adamii together in a room it's hard to hear a singer over them. Otherwise, what's already been said - the free-form jam is very cool.

Edited to add: Alan, no worries. You get even 2 OFCer's together, you're guaranteed to have a great time. The more the merrier.

Thanks, G8r! I appreciate the encouragement!

Phil: GREAT photos! Where are you in 'em? Or are you the guy behind the camera in all of 'em?

I'm usually behind the camera. That way I don't have to actually pick up a guitar and bring the Jams to a crashing halt.

But wait!! Here's a picture taken by Cliff with my camera of me and Matt Smith after he signed my copy of his book.

That might be the only weekend I can take vacation (daughter is home from college for one week then back off to do her clinicals) I will have to get more info before I can commit...otherwise...sounds like fun!

Soooooo...since the "veterans" have convinced me that I should just set this ball ta-rollin' and let it roll, I have some fun topics to exercise your creativity 'twixt now 'n the date: (please fill in the blank)
* Event name (hint: not g8rbowl):
* Event Logo (be mindful of copyrights, fair use, etc. Think T-shirts):
* Event Theme:

Rules:
---------------------------------------------
* You do not need to attend to participate.
* Please submit your nominations for the above event characteristics to me, with how you wish to be referred to if I pick 'em. My e-mail: alanminer@cox.net[/B/

Also: I will try to contribute door prize gifts, but if you all could send me things you think would be meaningful, I would MUCH prefer to use those. I have things like picks, and, ummmm...I have picks.

My address:
Alan Miner
167 Moylan Court
Newington, CT 06111

I promise to use ALL of what you send as door prizes (unless, that is, I deem it inappropriate -- my judgement)

No contributions? I can't use "First Annual" anything, 'cause it's NOT the first. G8r has g8rbowl...I guess I'll have to start thinking of creative things to put on the T-Shirt...

Everyone would have to be XXL to fit all that on the shirt. That might not be a problem.

As no one is really sponsoring this (ie:G8r G8rbowl or Dezignzilla's Zillafest)

Keep it simple:

How about NexJam '09

Northeast Axes Jam?

Short, sweet, vaguely cool, vaguely high-tech...

We used to have good parties. Drink, eat junk food. Great fun until the next morning. Then everyone got a girlfriend or wife. They had to plan the parties. They'd make big meals. Then we started having "theme" parties. Pretty soon they became a chore and people got mad if you didn't show up.
The moral is: just have the damn party Alan. It's a party, don't overthink it.

Alright, alright, alright...very funny (I'm not kidding -- it is!), but I need a T-Shirt I can give people that they can wear in front of their (and my) kids!

So, if there is no objection, I am just going to start making decisions for the thing and go with them.

I CAN announce that I have commissioned a very imprtant artist to produce an original work of art to appear on the T-Shirt. I wanted (1) to give him some guidance for the art work, and (2) to give youse guys some input as to that guidance.

So, without further ado, I announce the following:
Event Name: NexJam '09. Reason: more room on the shirt for art -- less room required for letters. Other names were definitely better, but this was the shortest, while still saying what it is.

Logo: to be designed by the artist, but I will pass on specs to him or her (not tellin' who it is yet)

Is it a TAKAMINE event ???

NEX is a Takamine body size/style. Anyway it's a good name. Wish I could be there. You guys will have a blast.

I'll never forget the very first OFC gathering we had. I drove to LA and all the way there was thinking "this is going to pretty bad if I'm the only one who shows up". But alas it was well attended and I met some of my longest and closest OFC friends.

Have fun.
