Location: Maine | UPS just delivered the Ovation Balladeer 12 String that I bought off Craig's LIst. A beautiful guitar................ with the exception of the six inch crack on the top running from the bottom of the bridge, down! The woman sent me pictures of the guitar taken just before it was shipped and no cracks. In fact, aside from the crack, the guitar and case is pristine. It was also packaged very well by the UPS Store. Needless to say, I am very disappointed, but thankfully, it was insured. |

Check out this article on the Carmack Admendment concerning claims.
Actually I think this should be tacked somewhere on this site. Great info... |

| Iffy, great article on shipping, etc. I will always pay extra to insure a guitar that is shipped. At least it motivates the shipper to be careful. |

Location: Maine | I called UPS and they never flinched. Or at least not yet they haven't. I insured it for $1100. I received an email from John at the factory. He said that it would be between $350 and $450 to repair. Having already paid $450 for the guitar and shipping, I'm not sure but it wouldn't be wiser to buy a new one with the proceeds of the Insurance money going toward it. Again, assuming they pay up. |

Location: Colorado | When I shipped my Ovation 12 from Maryland to Colorado, FedEx sat an elephant on the box and split the top in two. The guitar was well packed and in a hard case so FedEx honored the $800 insurance and payed for a new guitar. FYI, even though I would never use it to play out, the guitar still plays and did not fall apart. |

Who will pay for the crack I just put in my legend with my elbow? I would suggest nobody. Not, at least, until you learn a little about how to play a guitar. You see, you use your hands, not your elbow, OK? Now, follow along with me and I'll make it easy for you to understand. First, put the pick between your little digits and strum, up and down, up and down, up and down. Good, now repeat after me, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..........." GOOD BOY! Now, keep that elbow out to the side and remember to use your hands. Soon you'll be playing just like a big boy. |

"Jest nuff ta git yer'azz whooped!" DOUBT IT! I have two passions: Ovation and Kimber. I am fairly good with each of them and carry them both wherever I go. |

Want some Koa grips? :D Now that's a very smart officer, and you should send me a pm re: koa if you've got 'em.
In terms of my remarks to Twisted. I feel badly about that. It was a real lame attempt at humor and it was stupid of me. I do sincerely apologize for it. |

I insured it for $1100... paid $450 for the guitar and shipping... The carriers usually reimburse the purchase price and refund the shipping.
Over-insuring a shipment usually does not yield a profit in the case of a loss. I would be careful. |

Oh yeah, shipping damage. Maybe having the UPS Store pack it means you'll get a better response on the settlement.

An old Mainah was sitting on the front porch of his general store with an old yellow dog. He was whittling and relaxing in the summer breeze when one of those outahstateahs pulled up in his Mercedes and asked, "Excuse me sir, but before I get out of the car, I'd like to ask if your dog bites." The old fellow never looked up from his whittling and said, "Nosah." The well dressed gentleman got out of his fancy cah and as he stahted into the stoah, the dog came off that porch and grabbed the man by the leg ripping his trousers to shreds. The man, terrified, jumped back into his cah and said to the old fella in an excited voice, "I thought you said your dog didn't bite. The old Mainah never looked up and said, "Mine don't.........but this one does." |

Location: Maine | This is a fun thread and y'all have your Maine on real good, but let me come back to reality and ask a question that is actually related to this thread. My 12 String was shipped from California to Maine over five days with temperatures along the way ranging from 80 degrees (CA), to minus 10 degrees (ME), and various other temperatures along the way. Given that it was packed as well as it was, do you think that this was a contributor in the surface crack, and if so, is overnight air the only way to go in situations like this, price not withstanding. |

I lost a 1613 top under similar circumstances.

Location: Maine | So now I'm back in a quandary again. Recently I posted on this board of my struggle to choose between an 1866 Legend and the Balladeer. Obviously, I chose the Balladeer and we now know what happened there. The Legend is still available. It's mint, but a shallow body, and I think I've an irrational thing about shallow bodied Ovations. I can send the Balladeer to the Mothership for repair which is only $350 - $450, and finally there is the question on what the insurance is going to do. My answer to the situation is to own them both, and could easily enough because neither one is much money, but I'm getting resistance from the war dept. I must come up with a diversion, I think. :D |
