A thread gets started that talks about beds. Somebody replies, admitedly sarcastically, that it has nothing to do with guitars or Ovations. You stop the thread and warn the responder, not the original poster.
Now we've got a thread that starts off the same way, runs 5 pages, and suddenly you shut it down and ominously say "Final Warning". To whom? The person that started it? All the people who posted in the thread? Who? Beal posted in it. Gonna ban him? Are you going to ban me because I can't tell what you're doing and it's irritating?
I'm not trying to be a prick, but a little consistancy would be a good thing. |

I was going to post a few thoughts here, but you know what, I'm not going to. Instead I'll say this.
Miles, it's your sand box and you can and do make the rules.
You can play it any way you want, multiple ways in fact as you've demonstrated.
This used to be a fun place, guitar talk, comraderie (yeah, I know I spelt it wrong) music talk, off topic stuff that was interesting.
In the last year or so it has become increasingly bland, like a milkshake that is heading towards bening just warm skim milk. and ya'll know what is just like skim milk.
So, what's it gonna be? We gonna have fun again or are we going to play Taylors and talk nice nice to each other while knitting doilies? |

"that it has nothing to do with guitars or Ovations. You stop the thread and warn the responder, not the original poster."
THE ORIGINAL POSTER WAS CREATIVE ENOUGH TO MAKE IT ABOUT MUSIC !!!!
"a better nights rest will make you a better picker." THIS IS A TRUE STATEMENT.
DB's RESPONSE HOWEVER WAS UNWARRANTED AND INAPPROPRIATE..
Ok... maybe that's my judgememt call... BUT NOTHING in the next TWO threads that were created (you know which ones) were about MUSIC...
I am about at the end of YOUR rope... choose your next posting verbage carefully. I suggest you talk to Alpep before you do.

Well in the last year or so, while "boring" to you, it's been great for Al and I. We can concentrate on other things and not calls with lawyers and cops on what's posted on a BBS. We have the highest activity on the board ever, and it keeps growing. Most of the people that use this board DO NOT EVEN REGISTER. Which is fine. It's used as research by the ENTIRE WORLDWIDE Ovation community not the few folks that post.
1. Maybe there is less to talk about because Ovation isn't making as many guitars as they used to even just 5 years ago? It's all been covered. The new people are the lifeblood because they bring new questions, or old ones to the table. They get answered and life goes on.
2. This isn't real important but worth mentioning. Ads are driven by content. Tired of seeing ads that don't talk about music, stop posting about things besides music. The ads for real-estate and such have such a high ranking that the industry has paid for, that just me mentioning it in this post is enough to get us at least one more ad on the subject. I don't mind as it's all $'s to keep this thing going, but just don't complain about it.
3. Finally... things change. Again, read the Manifesto. (sorry brad).
4. As far as inconsistent... you obviously don't know me at all. However, I would like to point out that I don't SEE every post. Every post I do see is treated the same way. The rule, has been, and will always be...
About Ovation Guitars, at least Guitars, and related to Music.
Thanks for listening. |

Man... that's a real reach.
You have to admit Miles that it does not take much creativity to tack on some absurd coda like that. If that is all it takes make a thread about a persons choice of a mattress legit then we (you) will be flooded with off topic material.
IMO... DB was trying to do you a favor.

Not entirely true ... both Alison and I posted links to music videos related to the topic at hand. |

I agree with all of this 100%.. This warrants two additional off-topic threads from people who know better how?
and please note... the original poster got the message and hasn't posted since. |

I was honestly going to add to my post about the food allergies, but a customer came in and I had to go. What I was going to say is that one of my symptoms is a very painful rash on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet. When it flares up, not only is it painful to walk, but there were a few weeks there where I couldn't play guitar. Seriously. And as bad as that would be for any of us, I make a good portion of my living by giving guitar lessons. It STINKS! |

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | Do any of you have that catch-all clause in your job description that says "....and any other reasonable duties assigned by your supervisor..."? I do, and about a year ago, we launched an online learning module. I have degrees in marine Science/Biology and a Masters in Social Work, so of course the powers that be thought I would be the perfect person to provide tech support for people who couldn't navigate the system.
Suffice to say, in the last year I've climbed a VERY STEEP learning curve with regards to operating and maintaining an interactive website. Because of this, I am comfortable saying that Miles and Al have an infinitely greater grip on the movings and shakings of how this board works, inside and out, than we do. While they do have to take into account the goings on of the people who regularly post here, they also have to consider the substantially larger number of individuals who utilize the site as well.
I cannot help but believe that running this venue is not so simple as refereeing ou snarky conversations. So I almost always give them the benefit of the doubt.
ALL THAT BEING SAID: I would like to point out that I read the mattress post before DB did. My feelings were not disimilar to his, but I learned a couple of years ago that my sanity is better served when I don't bother to actually type the word "CLICK" as a response, but actually do it instead.
I've never met DB, but based on his posts, he is at least as sarcastic as I am. And if so, he also knows what I know: occasionally something you pitch as funny or goofy hits the catcher square in the facemask at high velocity. And just like in baseball, it's the pitcher's fault whether he meant it or not; he threw the ball after all. And from what I've seen, DB absorbs the "BOOS", shrugs them off, and goes about his business. That's what good pitchers and snarkers do. Knowing a flat one is going to bite them occasionally is the nature of the beast.
As far as the other closed thread goes, it was interesting at first, and a good little give-n-take in a fun kind of way. But near the end, several posts were starting to inch in the "personal" direction. I figured it would not last much longer.
From what I've seen on this site, "off topic" is tolerated as long as it stays fun. But once it starts to get edgy, it inevitably goes dodo.
Now this response has gone on too long, and I apologize for that. But I have to say, all of us have spent way to much time typing and reading on this site to get so supremely bent out of shape about something as mundane as mattresses and tilapia.
A couple of threads got closed. So what? Such things happen on the internet.
Now let's find something else FUN/INTERESTING to discuss.
I'll see all y'all around the board. |

I'll go ahead and close thread as it has run its course and really, I don't think anyone can top the last post. Thanks.
Time to go play guitar. |
