Location: California | It has a blue oval label, which should have the model name and number (Elite 1537). Serial numbers may be placed on a separate small white rectangular label. Agree, the other stuff is advertising fluff. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | At least one of the real wood-topped Adamas prototypes for the 1537 has a different bridge, fret markers, a brown non-cutaway super shallow bowl, the original stereo FET electronics, and, of course, the name on the headstock. Its serial number also reflects the date of manufacture. For mine, the serial number is 101382-2, which means it was the second prototype built on October 13, 1982. Oh, and a fine guitar it is! |

Location: California | Professor- mine is just like yours, except it is a deep bowl, outtie eppaulets and sound ring. Wonder where the others are, I know of some.
The one on eBay shoul have the ovation peg head logo. Well still is a1537, hope someone here gets it for a good price. |

Location: Right now? | Hwebster ... Your 1537 has "outies"? I had three 1537's, all from 1983:a black, a natural and gorgeous burst finish ... Traded the natural.. All from 1983 and all had "innie" epaulets. Each one of them were just a tad diffrent from the other, but all of were/ are great guitars .... makes me nutZ, I tells ya. I have never seen one with outties ... Can you show a photo?

Location: California | Thanks Wayne, found it in a CL list; jumped on this one as it is pretty rare and it has a sound ring but was not able to find from the owner the story behind. I would like to know where the others are. Expert opinion on a previous thread mentioned that probably is a factory proto for Elite or a Super Legend as it was called at that time. The factory placed a label and it came home with a signature  just turned 32 and it sounds "super bonito". All of 1537s wood tops from the 80's have also a great sound. Hope to meet with someone that owns the new WT Adamas.
Now who is going to buy the 1537 that is on ebay? 13 bids so far.

I'd bet that the top on this guitar has been refinished . Which is not a bad thing. The top looks perfect but the light part of the epaulets look very light, not like they are almost 30 years old . The binding is original which says that the top is refinished, not replaced. If that's the case, then the finish is new and thinner than the original. Bet it sounds great.
Headstock looks a little rough.
It will be interesting to see where the bidding goes.......

It does look nice in the pics and I like the -4's I really don't want to nit pick the sellers guitar since I'd love to own based on the pics alone, but Looking at the bridge closeup pic, Is there a finish crack below the bridge (between the 5th 6th strings) running toward the bottom of the body? If so, it may be purely cosmetic, but it wasn't openly disclosed. What is the funny white hightlight along the edge of the binding, lower bout area? Camera flash reflection?

Location: Texas | That does look like a finish crack. Paul is right, the soundboard looks extremely light for a 1537 (they age beautifully). I agree that it has either been refinished or spent the majority of its life in the case.
As far as "Nit-Picking", I wouldn't worry about it. Personally, I always try to get a phone #, if I am serious about purchasing a guitar off the internet. Then I would ask about condition, wear, electronics, history...use, etc etc etc....til the cows come home. That way you are not surprised or disappointed when the guitar hits your front porch. He is really thin on the description side, imo.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | The comments about the color of the top stain are valid, although colors from photographs and all the lighting variables coming into play can certainly have an impact. For more comparisons, the two guitars below are both confirmed SSB prototypes. The one on the left is the wood-topped Adamas from October, 1982 and the guitar on the right is a 1547 from November, 1984. The colors are almost identical.

Location: SoCal | I think the color rendition in those auction photos is off...
Assuming that the strings on that 1537 are D'Addario, I adjusted the closeup photo of the bridge (using D'Addario's colored ball ends as a standard) and then carried those adjustments over to the other photos. The color of the top on that 1537 now looks just as aged as the 1537 and 1337 living here. Considering the adjusted color and finish crack, it could well be the original finish. |
