Starting at $599 + $70 shipping. As much as I would like to bid on it, the starting price plus $70 blows my budget. Hopefully, some one here has a need to fill and a wallet that needs to be lighter.

Found one on ebay that looks about the same (finish, model), but is a different instrument. The one you referenced (above) appears to be from NJ, and this one (taking bids now) is a FL source, without much quality information. Starting bid is at $350. Shipping is free.

I saw that one too. It seems to have some bad cracks in the top and the seller has yet to respond to my questions about it. Looking at it again, the top has two distinct shades. One side darker than the other. Makes me wonder if it got wet for some period of time. On the side where the preamp is too.

I doubt it.  Probably just the way the it came out in the picture.  I have taken many photos where one 1/2 looks darker than the other in the photo but look almost identical in the real.

It happens when the top is truly bookmatched ... a phenomenon related to the cut and the way light hits it. In person, this EA68 looks totally normal. When photographed, it can look like this:

This come-and-go, two-tone effect happens with my re-built Book Elite. Here's a pic of it before it even left the factory lot.

And here's another pic taken just a few minutes later from another angle.

Now you see it, now you don't.

Here's a link to lutherie.net. The author explains grain runout and the two-tone effect on bookmatched tops.

My 1617, from different angles, looks two-toned, but is in fact, straight on, appears to be one, even color.  In this shot, the top looks two-toned and even wavy, but the top is also, in fact, original and mint.

I can't seem to insert photos for whatever reason, but you can see what I mean in this photo here:
