For all you members on the upper Atlantic sea coast and inland in the path of Sandy, be safe!  This looks horrible.

I don't think I've ever seen NYC closed before.

The wind is just starting to pick up in the mid-Hudson Valley. The wife and I have made about five different shopping trips over the weekend, so we're about as ready as we're going to get. I'm still grumping about having to skip the Annual Luthiers' showcase in Woodstock this past weekend because we had some battening down to do. (I know, I have screwed up priorities.)

For anyone who needs a new excuse to choose acoustic over electric guitar: You can play an acoustic in the dark when the power's out while a hurricane relocates all the shrubbery in your neighborhood. Ironically, when we moved here from Savannah years back, one of the few silver linings I noted at the time was "At least we won't have to deal with hurricanes." Apparently, I not only have skewed priorities, but I'm not very prescient either.

At least for now we have power, so I guess I'll hunker down and make snide comments on guitar forums while the kids watch Tom and Jerry DVDs. Then maybe I'll play some guitar in the dark.

Be safe everyone!

Forecast just updated for the mountains here...upwards of 1 to 3 feet of heavy wet snow beginning later today and ending sometime afternoon on Wednesday...wet snow will bring down a lot of trees and power lines...two years ago, the area lost power for nearly a month with a December storm...stay safe all.

Ironically, it's very nice here in Florida. Then again, we've had our share in years past.
Hunker down. Power outages suck, no way around that. Nice time to visit friends in other states...out West.

Unseasonably warm and slightly wet here. You guys are getting all the weather. You're welcome to come out for a visit, but our warm spell is only supposed to last a couple more days.

We're preparing for the worst, hoping for the best. I'm about 1/2 way between Atlantic City and Philly, so not so much worried about the flooding. The biggest danger is the winds and flying trees. The guitars are coming off the walls and into the cases until this is over. Patch - I worked in Manhattan during hurricane Gloria - it was pretty much a ghost town. I worked for the phone company at the time so had to go in... best subway ride ever - completely empty.

Too many hurricanes to count, and only two pieces of real advice: don't try to be brave (stay inside), and stay away from downed power lines. I know this sounds obvious, but this causes many deaths in Florida. My prayers are with you. Just hunker down and don't panic if you hear what sounds like a freight train passing through your house for hours at a time. It is not uncommon, and it will pass. And do get ready to see people's best side when it's time to support each other afterwords. God bless you all.

115 mph gusts and you're on the OFC forum? Next you'll be out edging your garden, then painting your nails, then baking a souffle...

Thank You Professor.. I went to work today and was allowed to go home early. It's not to bad where I am. Al and Cliff, John B and John Mauer might be more in the path of the storm. Hope they are okay.

We're doing fine. However, I'm writing from Kansas, there's a yellow-brick road with a bunch of really short people outside my front door and I just joined the Lollipop Guild. What does it all mean?!?

We may not hear from those most affected for awhile. They may be without power. The news is reporting something in the neighborhood of 7 million households without electricity. If you can't protect your gear, protect yourselves!

We waited things out with little impact at our place, though parts of Poughkeepsie had record flooding according to the news. We never even lost power, though the internet was down most of the day and night.

All things considered, we were astoundingly lucky!

My prayers for those dealing with the real brunt of the storm. Stay safe everyone!

Guitars, family, and house all weathered the storm ok. As an employee of the local electric company, I'm not so sure how well I'm going to hold up on 16 hr shifts with over 500,000 customers still without power, untill all are restored !

19 inches of snow at the house an hour north...we were lucky here...just a couple of inches...but at my old house in WV, 22 inches and still snowing...we may get some tonight yet...power has bounced off several times and some have lost power north of here. All in all, we are fortunate indeed!

We're all ok here in western Mass. The storm miraculously went around us for the most part, a few downed tress and some lost power, but nothing serious like NY and NJ. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who have lost their loved ones, homes and possessions. The weather has definitely changed in the last few years.

Just got Al's October newsletter (only a day late). He skirted disaster, or disaster skirted him again. Hoping for a speedy recovery for all those who weren't so fortunate.

Power is finally back on the street where my house is, but surrounding streets and homes are STILL without power. So much devastation; unlike anything I've ever seen, with the usual 'horror' stories. The following story however, to me, takes the cake. That man is going to have to sleep with one eye open from now on.

Look here: http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/weather/2012/11/01/ac-tuchman-sand...

So, so, horrible.
