Well I found a 1767 on CL last weekend. It is in beautiful shape cosmetically, but had buzzing on the lower frets. It appeared that the neck was bowed slightly so I decided the truss rod was probably too tight. Watched the YouTube video on adjusting the rod and thought it looked simple enough.

Got out my 3/16" Allen wrench and tried to adjust to the left (counterclockwise. ) it wouldn't budge. It finally took a handle connected to the Allen wrench to get it to move. I was concerned about the pressure I was exerting but was also PO'd by that time so had ceased caring as much.

Alls well that ends well I guess. I got it to turn about 1/3 of a full turn. That seems to have cured the string buzz.

My question is - Is it normal for the truss rod adjustment to be that tight?

Thanks
Joe

Not normal, but it happens. You should be able to turn it without a handle, but it had probably never bee adjusted since new, so next time should be easier.
