Tonight at the Mermaid, the topic was river, Darby had these lines in the middle of the tune:
.....but it was all water under the bridge
I fell in and it was cold as the frige.
You just don't hear stuff like that on the radio.
Heard a good one lately? |

You know the water looked so invitin'
I took off my armor and I jumped right in.
Don't tell me I don't know where I'm going,
'Cause there's only one way that the water's flowing.
I didn't say it was a good song.
What I like about the "fridge" line is that it's like he's just telling a story, not trying to phrase it perfectly. Some of the best lines are the ones that almost rhyme. |

And when I find me that river, Lord I'm gonna pay the price, Oh Lord!
I'm goin' down in it three times, but Lord I'm only comin up twice.
On my list of songs to learn. |

One way you end up with one more ally.
The other you get the opposition worked up.
(just something I picked up from watching The News.)

And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

volatile as the weather
Over fields of Scottish heather
The night before Hallowe'en
I feel like
A catamaran in summer
The beat of a reggae drummer
The flag of a brigantine
I feel like
A plate of the earth in motion
A storm on the Indian Ocean
A shake of a tambourine
I feel like
A bird of a different feather
A trail that runs forever
Though a forest of evergreen

"When they take my body from here, I hope that they have cigarettes and beer... It's the truth..." |
