I have been using the herc "grab it by the neck" stands, and was wondering what everybody uses for a smaller "A frame" type stand. I see herc makes one that is a "mini" acoustic stand, but it looks kind of flimsy, even though I know they usually make a very nice product. Beggin suggested Stageline stands, but I wondered what everyone else was using.

the herc is the one. Just make sure the neck area is all covered with the foam. I've had some slip and make dents in te back edges of the pegheads.

Dispite selling off all my stands except for a couple, I DO have quite a stash of small A-frame stands from a german outfit called Koenig & Meyer. They are called the K&M Wave-10. EXCELLENT stands for round back and contour back guitars. Less excellent for wooden boxes. But they work GREAT for ukuleles and mandos as well. They fold flat and small as hell and cost about $15.

Herc makes a small low profile stand for both acoustic and electric. I have one of each, and they are very well built, much more sturdy than Fender's version of which I have a half dozen. The low profile units are good for packing, but are more susceptible to accidents by clumsy drummers and roadies. Because nobody walks through my stage space, I prefer using the lower profile A-frame type. I purchased a carton of A-frame models by Toneworks at an auction. These are the most heavy duty of the low profile models. They open up into variable positions held in place by a finger-activated recessed pin. They're so heavy duty that they're neither light nor all that packable. I just leave it on stage.
