Location: Boise, Idaho | Tommy or Knopfler would be great, if I could figure out what they were doing. Both can do incredible things with both acoustic or electric guitars. For that matter Glen Campbell might be a decent teacher.
I'd be afraid that no matter how much money I had, any of those guys wouldn't have the patience to teach me anything. Money can't buy talent. |

Location: Simpsonville, SC | I have admired Matt Smith's style and easy going nature since I came here a year ago. Main reason I signed up for Amelia Isle. I would say that the opportunity to learn from him will be priceless. Hope he doesn't throw me out by Friday afternoon. |

Although some other great players mentioned, do we even know if they can "teach?" And what would the result be? Play like them? I'm sure spending any amount of time with Matt, one-on-one with guitars in hand, would absolutely have the most long term positive impact on my playing. And it would be just plain fun.
Oh yeah... and +1 for Jennifer Love Hewitt too. |

Sorry , that just wont wash ,over 4000 posts have been generated about that clinic and as far as i could see only about 3 related to guitar playing , golf , yes , alcohol consumption , yes , room sharing , yes , morning dumping habits , yes, need i go on ... :eek: |

Then when he's taught me everything he knows(if I'm still alive) I want Kaki so I can say "I'm in the OFC with your daddy". I would love to be able to just play one song like she does. Just simply amazing

As to the other goins ons in Amelia, I doubt I will participate. I am sure that there is a nice quiet corner in the hotel lobby for me to sit and read a long novel. |

In May, Tommy's going to be passing through town and he's putting on a workshop and I'll be in the front row! Ohh yeah...(now if I can only work on that attention disorder of mine...) |

I think it would have to be freddie green or one of those guys. walter becker would be cool but more for his songwriting skills than playing
but most importantly they would have to be able to make all those chords scales and modes make sense to me. |

I thought about a Tiger Woods/golf analogy, but my 25 handicap game is closer to Tiger's than my guitar playing is close to any of those guys. One reason I didn't sign up for Amelia, besides the lack of time, is that Matt's time would be much better spent on someone who brings a little more to the table to start with. |

Location: Scotland | Miles makes a very valid point. Great players are not always great teachers. In fact many great players just do it because that's what they know, and are lost if asked to analyse it. Matt Smith is an exception. Not only is he a great player, he is one of the best teachers I've ever seen. I've learned a ton of stuff about how to teach, from seeing Matt teach.

Let's hear em!! Outta them choices, I think that I would go for Gilmour. He has a nice slow melodic style I would love to emulate.
But also Matt Smith. Cuz he does wonders with them chubby fingers-tips. Something that would be good for me! :cool: |

Location: enid, ok | I'd go with either John McLaughlin or Pat Martino. Both are outstanding players, and have proven that they're also great teachers. Just to watch and try to pick up tips I'll take Paco De Lucia and Jeff Beck. Another great player/teacher whose brain I'd like to pick would be Scott Henderson. Or Regi Wooten. Steve Morse and Paul Gilbert also come to mind. OOOH!-and Jennifer Batten. There, that should do it. |

January - Talk about guitars and such with W2 and company on the greens in someplace-warmer-than-here.
February - Visit Bailey and learn the rythym of the desert winds in NM. I bet we could sit and talk for hours and not say a damn thing. Probably pack into something shiny, fast and rented and drop in on Serge for some "Real" Mex-Tex-New Mex mess! Then hear how real men play the Mandolin!
March - Take a tour of the Casa Del Witko in AZ and see if he has any O's and A's left ;) Our Wives could probably write a book on living with obsessive guitar Freaks, probably titled "But He's Always Home by Evening".
April - Need to spend some more time with GGG, Karen and those that I met at the 2006 OFC Tour. We'll be working on the Easter services.
May - Let us not forget about Paris in Spring! Time to go on the "Atkins" diet if you know what I mean! I can already play a mean "Windy and Warm"!
June - A little tour of New Zealand, Tazmania, Sydney and such should be in order! Hopefully I won't pick up a "Strine" accent. Learn if the scale goes backwards when Down-under!
July - Avoiding the East Coast, I'm thinking a little quality time learning how to Fly Fish in Alaskan waters whilst (I love that word) finger picking by a Lodge Fireplace would be nice. Heard there are some nice guitars up that-away.
August - Learn how they drink beer and tell stories in GB, Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man! I'm thinking something short-scale and easy to walk the hills and countrysides with. Drop in on few Music Stores as well.
September - Spend time with the worlds worst salesman and get his Old Ford Pickup on the road again! Then drive away in same pickup with a load of parts...
October - I'll have to split this one between Leaf-Peepin' in Colorado and Octoberfest in Germany! Need to attend Kurt's Kollege!
December - Home in the Great Northwest with a couple of drop ins by Ann Wilson for voice lessons and arpeggio's by Roger Fisher.
Y'all are invited to the New Year's Eve party so we can plan out next year's agenda... |

I really like his style and personality, which make it seem like he would be a very good teacher. Check out the way he uses his harmonics in the middle of the piece and it sounds just like a harp ...

Location: Utah | James Taylor. He makes it look easy, but it sounds good. My fingers, especially on the right hand, just don't know how to do that kind of stuff.
Richard Lloyd. Yes, he has a column in Guitar World and lessons up on his website, but I think there is a lot more he could teach in person. His online and magazine lessons always lead to an "aha!!!" where some pieces come together.
Peter Frampton, because he plays well and seems to have a lot of fun while doing so. His last album is exactly the kind of stuff I like to play.
Kaki. I don't know that I could learn anything from her because she is so far beyond me, but it would be awe inspiring just to have her try to show me a few things. |
