Hey guys I'm back. If you remember, I recently purchased a GCS771-LX. Sent the guitar to the "Spa", where JB and Mike set me up with a basically brand new guitar! - Had a nice chat with John who specifically said "the business is for sale." Hopefully a new buyer is found who is interested in making guitars in the USA - (clasps hands in prayer).

Anyway, I saw this guitar (1711-4 Standard Balladeer) at GC for sale. It looks in good shape. Has an older pre-amp without a tuner. I didn't get a serial number. Any info on the pre-amp and what year(s) this guitar might be from?

Wait, the current repair shop is for sale, or the overall ovation brand?

That's all he said. I didn't ask for specifics. I thought he meant the entire KMC business, but I don't know anything - ask anyone - lol.

In my sweetest voice, I asked SWMBO, "Hon-ey.... Can I buy Ovation Guitars?"

She just laughed...

Boy, talk about the ultimate in GAS.

Peanut, you need lots more info to get answers. Pictures of preamp, rosette, and bridge are necessary to know the year.

The specs on that model changed over the years. The above link is incorrect for sure, The thin line preamp pictured was for Vipers ony

http://www.ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=32... scroll down to see what is said on the 1711. The type of preamp stated in the link to the old Ovation website is probably wrong as pointed ot above. Most preampsare shown here: http://www.ovationtribute.com/Pr%E9-amplis/Ovation%20Preamps.html It could be the one i column 1 row 7 in a 1711.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. As I remember, it does look like column 1 row 7 thin line TPA mentioned. I'll try and get back there this week and get some more information and pictures. Anyway, now that the strings have warmed up (My God! - he hasn't changed the strings yet!? j/k), I'm really happy with my Guitar Center Special - the Cedar Top Rocks!

I do like the deep bowl though -
