The box just arrived with my new Beauty in it!
I need prayers and patience!!!

I know I need to wait 24 hours, but am praying that it makes it with NO CRACKS or damage!!! Keep your fingers crossed for me???

This is what the Seller told me: "This was made by a luthier that worked at the shop company on his own time before he was laid-off with others like him. I forgot the gentlemen's name though. I did not know about the Nakao until he mentioned it. Like you, I fell in love with it the day I saw it. I like the fact that he installed the newer OP-PRO pre-amp and that it was made in the USA!"

And 2 YouTube videos of her:

Lotta bling there! That's a fantastic looking guitar.

24 hours? Seems like an eternity to wait. Personally, I give it six and go for it. But that's just me.

Congrats!

Was that the one in Rancho Cucamonga CA? Beautiful! One thing it has that the regular CL's don't is the abalone up and around the fretboard, like an 87 Collectors. And unlike the Nakao guitars, this one has an ebony fretboard, not rosewood. Great guitar! Congrats. Hope it will be played a lot.....

Wow. For a newbie you really know how to pick them. I've never been able to wait 24 hours either, but when I shipped a guitar to Wisconsin a few years ago about this time of year, the buyer opened it right away and it cracked right down the middle. Take your time. Take the case out of the box after a few hours and then open the case tomorrow. Have your camera ready.

Let it acclimate slowly, it's too nice and unique (and irreplaceable) an instrument to risk quick-defrosting it. I normally wouldn't question Bobbo's advice, but he lives in a drastically different climate than you do, (especially this time of year.)

You guys are SO NICE!!! Thank You!!! And Thank You for teaching me so well!!!

I am able to pick good ones, because of what I have learned from you all! I have gone back and read, and read the older posts, I pick up on things easily when I have informed people to learn from. Plus, and please don't hold this against me, It's Pretty! LOL!!!!

This Sweetie came from Redding CA from a Collector named Mario! VERY Nice Guy! I like that it is unique, and someone custom made this Guitar at the Factory as their Ideal Guitar! You know it was very well Loved and Cared for!

I loved it when I saw the picture, but what really sold me, was Mario playing it on YouTube, I closed my eyes and listened, and it had *that sound*, I knew then, that I had to have it come hell or high-water.

Just seeing that box sitting there is driving me nuts, patience never has been my forte... but because you guys taught me the RIGHT way to do things, I am going to wait! And if it cracked like my Red 1112, I would be devastated! Luckily, she is with John B getting a new glossy finish and will be good as new in a wee bit!

I do have a bone to pick with you guys though.... I never had any interest in the Adamas line before I came here, and after reading your posts, and studying them, I am in Love with the 1687GT-2... I love the hand carving on the head and the bridge, and that Red Color... Oh MY!!! I will have to really save for one of those, and then try to find one! I would love to hear one in person, but there are No music stores around here.

Thank You all again for being so helpful, and sharing your knowledge and time with us Newbies, we are capable of learning (perhaps too much...)!

Mario?

Hey Bobbo, would this be the Mario that hung out with us at NAMM?
Wasn't he at the party at your sisters house?

Nope.  That Mario is from Burbank.  But Redding is closer time than Burbank by about half.

I urge caution Nancy! When I joined this site a couple of years ago, I didn't own a single O or A.

Thanks to the efforts of the "nice" people here - I now have six and I'm starting to look for another.

GAS is an insidious disease, and some of the people here, me included, don't help.

BTW, I love your new Ovation. Can I buy it? Please!

LOL!!!!!!!! Yeppers, you have GAS bad! LOL!!!!

I believe you Banjo, I only had 2 when I came here, and I had just gotten them, now I have lost count, and am constantly on the prowl for something that makes my heart stop!! I am turning my downstairs into a Nan-Cave Guitar Haven, and am reading and re-reading every post in all of the forums to glean information and knowledge to feed my Addiction! LOL!!! I stayed up past midnight last night watching YouTube Ovation videos and listening to professionals and the creators play these works of art! LOL!!! I am becoming a slave to my addiction, and loving every minute of it! LOL!!!! I have to admit, this addiction is much better than booze or drugs... but not much cheaper! LOL!!!

LOL!!! I can't wait to see it either! I just took the box off about 1/2 hour ago, so now I have to wait about another 3 hours. It is double wrapped in plastic to keep out any moisture, and then closed cell foam around the entire case! This guy knows what he is doing!!! I am going crazy trying to wait, but I know it will be safer, and I can look at it every day (without cracks), if I am patient!

I promise to get pics as soon as she comes out though!!!!

I'm way behind on this one. What IS "Nakao"? And how does it differ from the DiMeola blond 1769? (apologies in advance for the ignorance: I only own four Os!)

Heck, I have no idea (nor do I have an understanding after writing the following) but there is a post by Al 2/07/2002 that said it was his understanding that Jimi Nakao (basis for the N in the model number) is the importer of Ovation guitars into Japan which is the basis for the N in the model number. High quality, ornamentation often different to appeal to taste of market. This may have been either a 'custom', went to and came back from Japan, or one that didn't pass the tough standards for import. From what Nancy said about the guitar being made by one of the guys for himself, doubt if it was intended for Japan. So why Nakao? From my 2001C redwood, the guitars slated to go to Japan have a medallion attached near the heel on the back. Nakao (center hole or elite) seems to be defined as neck binding and abalone up the fretboard...course, CL's and others have binding and the '87C has abalone up the fretboard...from the pictures, this guitar has binding and abalone, cut-away, and AAA spruce top...not bearclaw spruce as the 30th Anniv CL does. Bottom line, I am sure it is a great guitar. What pre-amp does it have?

Here is what the Seller said about the Guitar:

"This guitar looks identical to the Ovation N769 Nakao. However, this has the newer Special Pre-Amp assembly OP-PRO with the Dual XLR and 1/4" output jacks that connects this 1769 Custom Legend to virtually any sound system, stage amp, or recording console."

I wrote him and asked him if it *was* a Nakao, or how it came about, and he told me that:

"This was made by a luthier that worked at the shop company on his own time before he was laid-off with others like him. I forgot the gentlemen's name though. I did not know about the Nakao until he mentioned it. Like you, I fell in love with it the day I saw it. I like the fact that he installed the newer OP-PRO pre-amp and that it was made in the USA!"

And a post I found by Geostorm98 here on OFC Forum (2014-11-10) that said this about the N769:

"Hello DetlefMichel - I highly recommend not selling your N769. These guitars were made for a major Japanese distributor that was very fussy. They are unique as well. It was very costly to have a unit returned, therefore Nakau guitars were a step above standard models off the line. I would love to buy yours, always wanted an N769...not sure if the timing is good though. You're really at the pinnacle with this one."

I want to Thank You all for being Excited with me about this Beauty. It means allot to me that something that I instinctively thought was Wonderful, really is, by the people that would know what *was* Wonderful!

You will appreciate this 2wheeldrummer - Tony has graciously allowed me to Adopt one of his 2004 Custom Legend 1719-CM30 Anniversary Editions. I am beyond EXCITED! I think it is the most Beautiful Ovation ever Created! I have asked him not to ship it to me until our weather warms up a wee bit, shipping these Gorgeous pieces to the Frozen Tundra at this time of year is just too darned hard on my heart! It looks very close to the 04 Commemorative CL, except for the cutaway, abalone fretboard binding, and bearclaw spruce, as Tony said. I don't see a truss rod cover either.
