Hello! My name's Fergus and as the name suggests Im Scottish!

As a long-time fan of John McGeoch, I thought I would use the internet to finally identify which model of Ovation 12-string he used to play.

To my untutored eye it looks like a 1618 Glen Campbell but, whatever it is, it was built prior to 1980.

Unfortunately there are not too many hi-res pictures of it (actually none), however it may be possible to identify it from the screenshots I've taken from these videos:

In addition to the fingerboard pattern, white tuning pegs, truss-rod cover, and banded lamination on the back of the neck, there appears to be something or other on the body just below the junction with the neck (best viewed in the second-last pic from the first video, may just be the strap button)

It would be great if anyone could help identify the guitar, especially if there are any unique features that show it can only have been a certain model.

Thank you!

Thank you, Damon, I've since found a still image of the guitar.

Are there any features on it that *definitely* identify it as a 1618 Glen Campbell?

It's hard to tell for sure in the pictures, but there seems to be a signature on the truss rod cover. As far as I know, the GC signature models were the only ones that have that.

What Patch said, the binding and hardware, and I used to have one... that's about as close to definitely as I got for ya. (Mine was older though, and no pickup). Someone else here has it now, or had it.

Thanks guys! I found another couple of pix that appear to confirm the signature on the truss rod cover:

They can be found, especially if you have some patience.

1118 is acoustic
1618 is acoustic/electric

Try searching around, or maybe post a 'looking for' ad in the for sale section

oh, and not all have the signature on the truss rod cover. THAT might be a harder thing to find.
