I really enjoy these.
There's such a variety of styles & sounds that can come from any guitar. Just depends who is behind the wheel.
And there is always something to learn when listening to someone play.

I'm sitting second from the right playing my Hamer Newport. A post-modern somewhat avant garde guitar ensemble. I like the second movement better than the first, starting at 5:25.

Cliff sounds professional because he is professional.
He just does it for (almost) free.
Important things I come away with are...
MIC PLACEMENT
I'm guessing the guitar is 80% mic and 20% plugged in.
Just a touch of a vocal harmonizer. It's like a dash of cajan pepper. Just enough to spice it up but not overpower. Less is more.
MIC PLACEMENT
Top shelf gear
and most of all... talent ... that only comes from putting in the hours (and hours.... and hours)

Interesting, are these just use for recording or also in live settings? Is this the digital equivalent of the double tracking technique that John Lennon had developed?

Every one gets a "LIKE"! Awesome guys. And - um - to everyone else - don't be shy!
+1
You might regret that last encouragement Peanut Butter! It's inspiring hearing all of your Os, and the variety of styles and techniques that are represented here. My CC54i iDea and I don't really belong here, but I was having a frustrating evening at work the other day; and just started dawdling about, and took a short video of us. I hope you all don't mind me sharing from Japan.

Great Thread!
Here's one from the Ovation Roadshow...
I almost bought that guitar. I'm so sorry I didn't! I had Adam hold it, then I told him never mind. I had just bought a cuople of guitars and was having a hard time justifying another. But damn, I wish I'd have just pulled the trigger!

Unfortunately for you guys, I encouraged myself! Here I am I am trashing a perfectly good Dylan song. And the the last verse is cut - oh well. At least its a good shot of the guitar - Enjoy - FWIW!

Amazing! You have a bad day, and you can create incredible music! I have a bad day, and learn new swear words!
Stopped the "Swear words" at the tip of my tongue, lol. Not sure that "music" is quite the right word to describe doodling with a guitar in frustration, but thanks for the gracious comment naellis58. Now, Jonmark Stone's "When I Heard Newbury Sing"...that is some incredible stuff!
Bob, is this you playing? That is absolutely mesmerizing! I chromecast that up to the TV and play it over and over, and every animal in my house, including me, just melt into a peaceful relaxed state of being! I have been playing it over and over each night to calm down the household. I just wish it were longer!!! Beautifully done!

darkbarguitar - 2015-03-26 1:59 PM Hey, I just read where the Chinese have knocked off the electric rake and are selling it for HALF the price as the Captain's USA model

Here's mine:
Incredible, Captain Lovehandles! Bravo! In a blind hearing test, I wonder what percentage of listeners would be able to tell they're listening to a distorted garden tool!

You know, I couldn't help but notice that the U.S. model Guitar Rake was constructed of metal. The rakes in Japan are made from bamboo...hmmm...I wonder what the tonal and resonant differences would be? What do we call these? They aren't solid or acoustic...wire-body guitars? The Celebrity Wire Body?! Yes! I'd like mine with an F-hole! LOL!

I'm bumping up this old thread with a new video - in honor of the get-together. I realize it's another Grateful Dead song (and a darn easy one at that!). One of these days I'll branch out -

Oops. Just saw this. Didn't mean to ignore you, Nancy. Yes, it is me playing. I wish I played it as a "cover", and had sung the words back then, when I still had my voice. Anyway, thanks.

Not to be too diffuse, on the other hand, trying to be helpful, there's a non-copyrighted PDF file out there - Google "Jerry Garcia Songbook".
(Clasps hands in prayer for forgiveness from the Gods of Copyright & Songwriters).

I used to have a thread going but all the source files went kaput when the Ning experiment went kaput. I still have originals in my archives so I'll find a away to get that started back up. Give me a bit of time to get it out together so I can do another Song of the Day thread. If I remember right, we had the original OFC CD, then the Holiday theme one, then the Day at the Beach, and our red-headed step-sister Tak's disc. I've also got a few other little gems that got posted or passed around. And I know that some other people have some source files and YouTube material out there.
So look for a new OFC Song of the Day coming soon. And Waskel's right ... maybe we ought to think about another one sometime before we croak.
In the meantime, y'all check this out. Beal released a new CD a few weeks back. Called Here's To You. Matt Smith was a big part of it too. bobbo sez check it out. This song is on the album, but fortunately it's not these clowns for a backup band that you see in this rare vintage recording. http://youtu.be/wNfWxs8V1Oo
