Location: Jet City | It's been too long. With all the fun exciting news floating about, I'm feeling the need to chill out with some of my Ovation brothers and sisters. Let's figure this out. I'd love to see as many of you as possible, there are no boundaries. Heck, we've even had Aussie's up here in the past. Except for the weekend of July 11th, I'm open to anything between the end of June and the beginning of August. Mi Casa is located right in the heart of downtown Bellevue, WA. There's ample space here (campers welcome), lots of hotels within a few block's walk, world class dining, etc. Let's figure out a date that works and do it

That's good with me. And you know you have an open invite even if that's not when we do it.
How's the weekend of June 20th sound folks?

Lucky for us, I hear we'll be blessed with an OSH again. We'll also have other cool guitars floatin' around the place, a couple original shiny bowls (and a reissue), the Messina Deacon, wood top UKII, just to mention a few. I'm sure other folks will be contributing a couple as well.
There's a few non-Ovation things hanging around too.
Brad, I remember seeing you ride off with that gorgeous flame, my fingers crossed that no ill would come of it. I've had a few different reds and an orange or 2, but if I ever find one of those full bowl flame jobs, I hope I have the $ to do something about it.

I know. I don't really have anything extravagantly unique, and I painted the Painted-T.

It was a good thing I didn't bring any guitars and our clothes probably took up less space than your camera bag. I could bring the Pilot and try to copy you, but there will already be guitars just like mine when I get there.

I like driving - because I can take more stuff and guitars...flying would not be as frenetic... also the Sunday is fathers day....I think it is a good gift to myself...not so sure about my family....I may decide to bail also...so make your plans as if I am not coming.....I will get some details from Damon...what I am waiting on if they add a show in Madrid...if they do...It'll be a no go at all - because it'll push things to Friday in Spain...ergo....no NW trip.....stay tuned. Thanks for the offer....having someone for one of the two days' travel would be nice. |

Portland really ain't along the way from Colorado to Damon's.
I can take the Bus. Maybe the Bolt bus.

And I can plug-in my amp and annoy the neighbors.

It's at least a couple hours longer to go over to Portland and up, but it's a possibility. My concern is that I'd like to head back pretty early on Sunday, so going back through Portland wouldn't work too well.

heck right now - I may have to fly in and out the same day...I cannot get the work dates set. Unfortunately, with Bobbo's delay there will be no OSH in attendance that I know of. I was really looking forward to that or an OFC1 to goof around with too.
It's still a month off, who knows who or what will end up here. Regardless, it'll be great seeing friends and making new ones.

6774(not LX)
The Gang of Three.
That was a tuner stuck on the top of the 6774 near the fingerboard extension.
It is gone now leaving a spot that doesn't have a tan on the top. (old photo)
Sadly... that is not a 1-7/8 inch Collectors'. Having three wide necks would be cool.

Balladeer #1096, the PF Proto and a PF 22 Bass.
Now all we need is a logo and a Tee Shirt.
How about the 2015 Semi-Annual OFC PNW & Witness Protection Program Gathering

Here's a map, the house is a half block off Main and Bellevue Way (Old Bellevue on the map). All the hotels shown here are literally a couple minutes walk. Downtown Seattle is just 15 minutes as well, so the options are endless if you're good with driving.
Here's a link to the general area from HOTELS.COM Everything above The Woodmark Hotel is pretty much walkable, though Coast Hotel is on the other side of the freeway. |

Mark, nobody's said anything about Sunday only. I just have the doors open if anyone wants to come by before taking the ride back to wherever, and I'm gonna need to feed this belly, so everyone is welcome to feast prior to departure.
Unfortunately, with Bobbo's delay there will be no OSH in attendance that I know of. I was really looking forward to that or an OFC1 to goof around with too.
It's still a month off, who knows who or what will end up here. Regardless, it'll be great seeing friends and making new ones.
Damon,
I thought you or Miles had his OFC. If you want to compare my OFC with Mark's original Slothead, I'll throw the OFC in his van, assuming he brings his slothead. There will probably be enough room to bring the #47RI, too, if someone wants to try one of those and I'm still thinking that no one up there has played a 2011 2078ALE yet.
I didn't see much sense in hauling up the same model of guitars that other people are bringing or that Damon already has. |

I pulled up an ancient archive and saw one of those "what will you never get rid of" topics and saw him comment on how he'd have to pick either the Jim Messina Deacon, or the Wood Topped UKII...

We might end up with a pretty full van. |

Don't be so sure. I didn't play the '87 plugged in for nearly 2 years. Started playing it again and the battery that was in it is still going strong.
I'm starting to think the op-24's actually charge the battery. |

When I've made the trip east on the bike Boise is my 2nd night stop, so that's about right. I'm guessing he'll be in Spokane-ish tomorrow (Friday) and it's only a few hours for Spokane, pretty straight shot. |

There are Likey thingies on the The Ovation Instruments Collectors Board
and on the Ovation Guitars FB page.
And on the Ovation FanClub(tm) FB page.
One bad thing is that FB doesn't have a DON'T Like button.

Agreed.
Besides, the FB Like button only exists to allow their algorithms to post more crap into your feed. I stopped clicking like and things got a whole lot better quickly

Damon has a secret stash of solid bodies with knobs that go to 11 that the pickers lined up for. Phil could front any band with his gritty vocals and Miles knew Ozzie's Crazy Train.... fun doesn't begin to describe it. Outside acoustic sensibilities prevailed, polite conversation reined and the sampling of myriad models of Ovations and Adamas continued unabated.

Man, what a great time, thanks to everyone who came out, especially those that drove long distances, it wouldn't have been the same without you. Sara (no 'h') and I had a fabulous time. There were so many great things, I don't know where to start. I suppose I'll start with the very first cool thing. My oldest son Nick came up from California to join in the festivities and hang for Father's day weekend, THEN.... The Marks stopped by Friday late afternoon and dropped off their guitars. This meant I had an entire evening with 2... YES TWO Adamas slotheads at my disposal. I went through 3 bottles of wine and was up till 3am playing them both, but I gotta say, Elgin Acres' OSH probably had the lion's share of my time. Gentlemen, if your girls seem somewhat violated, I'm not sorry. Thanks again, that was a very special way for me to start the weekend. Saturday had too many things for me to remember. Phil, you may think the beer was flowing minimally, but My wine glass was never empty (when I could find it). The chance to play all the guitars was great, but seeing all of you again, and meeting you new folks is what I dug on most. Chris busted out that electric fiddle and LET ME TELL YOU, he could steal that golden fiddle right away from Johnny's feet. Miles was rockin' hard, Phil was singing his wonderfully catchy tunes, and and and and... I was having so much fun, I never got around to doing anything I had planned on doing. I bought a new Nikon so we could do some red blanket shots, and I hardly ever had the camera (Thanks to Nick and Sara for clicking it some in my absence). I also wanted to do some string changes for anyone who wanted to learn, as well as discussing live sound, mixing, and whatever. None of that ever happened. I was having way too much fun. I held the camera for the first 10 minutes of the day, after that my son Nick and the ever so lovely Sara were the responsible parties. Again, thanks all for the great times, here's some pics... Elginacres, MWoody, OMA

Location: Boise, Idaho | Great event. Thanks for hosting, Damon. The Marks made it back to Boise by 4 for Father's Day dinner and the other Mark headed further down the road so he could make it back to Denver today. We didn't have to worry about keeping each other awake. We talked for 8 hours straight each way. Sorry we ate all the potato chips that Linda intended for the party, but there was plenty of other great food. I left stuffed.
Someone commented about me sitting in front of a bunch of Adamas guitars playing an Academy. Did anyone take a picture. It's amazing what Ovation could do with plastic. That thing sounds great. I noticed that I'm holding a beer in every picture of me. I did hold more guitars than beers that day.
One of Damon's pictures shows me admiring Miles' Ultra GS. I thought I had seen every version of those, but don't remember seeing a sunburst before. What a gorgeous paint job on an inexpensive guitar. Great examples of what Ovation can do from top to bottom.
I hope Patch can use some of the pictures of the 5 guitars in the rack. Those are some rare models, from the original slothead to the green nylon string Viper.
In addition to meeting up with all the great Ovation folks, I got to spend a little time with my daughter and her fiancée and meet his dad. It was a wonderful Father's Day weekend. |

They did 50. You guys should have played it more. It needs to open up more. If I'd have known they were going to do the last limited edition Legend in sunburst with a deep bowl in 2012, I probably wouldn't have bought that one. Some other nice features are the walnut binding with a checkered pattern and walnut fretboard like the 1537s.
Al might still have a new one. Give him a call. |

He posted back then that there were only 25 made for the US. There was another guy in Boise that had 2 of them and was trying to sell one after I got mine. The odds of having 3 limited editions of anything in Boise have to be small. I think I got mine in 2011 or maybe late 2010. I was selling guitars in early 2010, not buying. |

I lost my shop, technically had to consolidate it into the garage, when we moved. Basements are great, but hard to find around here. Not that I did much work in it, but it was nice to have the shop right next to the guitar room in the basement and the storage room for cases right next to that. |

I put together a desk in a basement once that the movers couldn't get out when we moved. I built an exercise machine in our last house that stayed in the basement when we moved. I built two storage sheds to get some of the stuff out of the garage and made some space in the attic for my guitar cases. I can't even get around to changing the nut on the UKII, much less build a boat. |

There were reasons at the time but boatbuilding, like anything to do with guitars, doesn't need good ones. |

What a neat minisled. I sailed a ultralight about that size for a long time because it was so handy camp cruising through tight spots. Wylie went on to bigger, even faster things. I like the big tri now for the longer legs and better rough water sailing, it is also nice to be able to stand up in the cabin.

I think we're going to have to lift our game at the next Aussie OFC gathering we have. We didn't even play a whole lot of anything much last year.
Now, the next questions from inquiring minds: who's who and what were they playing? |

Aside from Miles restringing a guitar, left to right:
Cavalier (Chris) on fire with his fiddle
Derrick "Buddha", non OFC, but bought his B768 from LostArtVintage
Michael is selfie takin' one sitting down, just a local musical friend, non-OFC, playin a 1615-1
-J- on his 2778LX (he's anti-internet, but still an O fan)

Chasen Chantz had a show to play, but stopped in for a quick minute before heading to it.
He's playing #43 instead of his usual red flame T. Local friends Gary showed up to play some keys, and Abdul sat back on the drums. I'd spilled wine all over my OFC shirt, so I moved on to Peavey... and was playing my Odyssey as well. Buddha's on a Magnum IV
Sara only took 2 videos, both when i was playing. There were other folks up playing, I swear. I wish we had some Miles footage.

Location: Colorado | I am finally back in Colorado for a couple weeks...reflections on the PNW Gathering...Thanks to Damon and Sara no "H". Opening their home was gracious and fun. Damon has just few guitars!....and a wicked left turn to get to his street. I need the pimento cheese spread-dip recipe...holy cow. Nice meeting all ya'll. With the exception of Mark P, I had not met any of you face to face...it was an honor. Woody, Miles, Arthur, Cavalier...and others - great people - great guitars. Regarding Cavalier...as Mark Knopfler says...- "oh yeah the boy can play". I learned there is a very real - yet subtle line between Damon's upper deck and his lower patio. Miles..way to rock out...Damon...great guitars - even better guitar playing. One of these days I should get back to playing. Also - first time with an Academy...no way that guitar should play as well as it does - and sound like it does....but it does...anyone wants to sell one...PM me....only pure woodbox I saw there was Damon's Larrivee. Great guitar....Damon...you gonna thin the herd and let it go? Some of the other events I have been to have had more than Ovations there....we are just a group who likes great guitars...and we help carve the Ovation niche. Mark...thanks for sharing 1100 miles....c'mon Oregon...why are you full serve still? Bobbo - we'll see if we can catch the next one...Great experience going from playing #43 to an Academy - to a Viper, to an OFC 1, to an OFC 2...to a 1537...all great - all different... who owned the longneck? easiest playing one I have had the pleasure to strum. Also - Mark's 47 Re is great...sweet sound. |

Hey Elginacres,
I liked the Pachelbel Celtic Canon and think we were making progress on Dusted by Breaking Wind. Some of that Colordo weather looks wet, might be an excuse to head this way again. They let me pump gas in Oregon because they can't figure out my antique gas cap. |

Every-so-often some law-maker proposes allowing Self-Serve Gasoline in Oregon claiming that it would lower prices... But Oregon fuel prices are the same or Less than CA and WA where they have Self-Serve.
Also, the law creates Jobs for Thousands of people. How cool is That.

Why on earth would anyone want to handle a highly carcinogenic substance like gasoline anyway. In any laboratory setting substances like this are handled with protective gear under a hood. If you look at the history of cancer, for many decades during industrialization this has mainly been an occupational disease, but with the shift to self serve fuel over the last few decades has now become the leading cause of death (even with declining smoking rates). I certainly prefer the full serve stations where young fools who don't know better can handle that stuff. |

We should also make them test our food, try out experimental drugs, and send them to war. |

Of course they tend to spill gas all over the side of your car, but aside from damaging the paint, it's great....... |

Location: Colorado | Though it wasn't tooooooo bad...at a 32 pump station - with only 2 attendants, it can take a while just sittin around...i was surprised the prices weren't bad...though he expected a tip....I was kinda hoping they would check the oil...wash the windshield...check air pressure...but no on that....I just like busting on Oregon....hey it is not like I am immune here in Colorado.... |

Because it's better than having them dump it all over your $12k+ bike. |

Anyone who hasn't spent at least half their life up to their wrists in gasoline has no right to call themselves a *** fearing apple pie loving American citizen!! |
