| Hello there, my name is Frank and I'm from Montreal. I recently got a good deal on a near mint 1719 Custom Legend and with the help of OFC members on certain details, I finally grabbed it! It sounds and plays amazing! I also own an Adamas II 1681-2; both guitars have their own signature sound and I might be hooked on Ovation... (although I still play conventional wooden guitars from time to time) Here are a some pics

| I'm really amazed at how fantastic the Custom Legend sounds; the Adamas sounds great and that's what you'd expect from it but I guess I didn't have such high expectations for the CL and it took me by surprise... Can't wait to put a mic in front of it and start recording.
Moody: didn't Glen Campbell play on shallow bowls or his CL was a deep bowl?

Location: Muenster/Germany | Now you need an Adamas 12string! And then maybe have a try with an Elite, just for the little smoother sound. And a Custom Legend deep bowl cutaway is absolutely neccessary then, if you sometimes use to play with a capo and besides that the sound is soo nice. A ssb guitar should be better when you play with the band..didn´t they built also 12string ssb´s? But sometimes you need the real "vintage" Ovation feel, go for an old 1617 Legend and this one-of-a-kind 1537 on ebay.... Fingerpicking might be better on a Folklore...oh look at that nice 12string custom legend in black, would perfectly match my 6...Adamas slothead? Never heard, let me try, wonderful guitar and a -must-have-.....
I can tell you this is just the beginning.

It's interesting. Campbell's signature guitar was a shallow (mid depth) bowl. Yet he only played those for about 3 years. Around 1973-74 he got an acoustic only A braced, deep bowl Legend and played that for about 3 years. Then he went to an Adamas until he got his 1537 prototype in 1982. After that, until the early 2000's when he went to a Viper for stage work, he played the proto, then the 87 Collectors, all the while mixing in his black CL.
Oh, also in the mid 80's he played an acoustic only CL. So far all the talk in the Ovation book about the shallow bowl GC model, Campbell mostly played deep bowls. The only shallow or ssb guitars he played with any regularity were nylon string Country Artists and the ssb Adamas/CA.

| Interesting that whole Deep Bowl versus Shallow Bowl story.... I prefer Deep Bowls for their accoustic sound.

Don't twist my rubber arm! I know I'll eventually get a 12 string (I play a lot of 12 string live) and I've always wanted a vintage Adamas I; 'just waiting for one to come along...!

Location: Texas | "It was the one they asked him to sign." ...the reason being (and Paul correct me if I am wrong) was that it was the guitar he wanted Charlie to build him. He wanted more "cut" in his souund, so the shallower (artist) bowl provided that, over the original Balladeer and Deluxe Balladeer bowls. Paul is exactly right...Glen's move away from the deep bowl was brief. The last re-issue of that guitar wasn't popular at all. I read somewhere that Ovation gave a bunch of them away at the CMA awards in 11, when they honored Glen.
