Hi All,

I'm Erik and I've had an account here for a long time, but never took the initiative to post before. I'm a member of the Ovation Collector's page on facebook, but I've found it's hard to use that resource for information and realized I should be here instead. If you're curious about my Ovation family, I have a '79 Balladeer that I acquired used (which I believe needs a neck reset...) and a refurbed 2778ax which I like quite a bit. I play in a folk duo and use my Elite for recording and live performances (along with a small menageries of acoustics).

I did have a question that I hoped you could all help me with. I've been creeping on the new import models that Ovation is releasing in 2016 and saw some lovely 2078s with a exotic veneers on the AAA spruce top. Do any of you have experience or knowledge regarding this top technique? I'm curious if a solid top of that grade is hindered by a veneer. I rather like the idea and want to support Ovatoin, but I don't want to buy expensive and dull-sounding plywood when I could probably get a non-veneer 2078 for the same or less. Link below for your examination.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and talking Ovation!

As you probably know, there were some Collectors' Editions with veneer tops.
But, yeah... It is still plywood.
