Hello, I'm Hook from Tampa, FL. I'm a professional musician, performing mostly kids music full time (different stage name) but I still do the occasional cover gig. I write & record daily, often in my car (I have 4 kids so my Tascam DP24 has some dust on it) with my BR80, ukuleles, my ukulele bass, traveler guitar & my ipad. I've been producing music for quite a few years now and writing for over 25.

I picked up an Ovation Idea (the grey/silver one) at Guitar Center, used, for $250. I'm quite surprised at how much I enjoy playing it. I found my way around the pre amp quite easily, it's very intuitive. I recorded 3 tunes with the mic/guitar and was impressed. Especially when I finger picked & sang, on the tune that I strummed (fingers not pick) it seemed like it was recording a tad hot, like it might have been clipping. Regardless I was pleasantly impressed until I got home and plugged in the usb. None of my computers, 2 laptops & a PC will recognize the drive. It comes up as "Drive D- This Folder Is Empty". If I plug in the headphones it's all there. I'm assuming it's some kind of driver issue but I'm a bit lost. If I can't retrieve the songs I record it's kinda useless but I really want to work it out, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hook,

Have you visited iDEA for Dummies? http://www.ideafordummies.com/

This site is not affiliated with Ovation, it was created by an OFC Member.
Also, many of the links are not functioning.
This website was created a while ago.
It was started when the iDea module first came-out.

That said, there is still some good information there.

Hey Old Man Arthur, thanks for the response. I have been to that site and they show that once you plug in the USB it recognizes the drive as "Idea" and shows the 3 folders, JAM TRACKS, LESSONS & RECORD , as appears on the screen of the pre amp. That's not what's happening on any of my available computers, 2 laptops with Windows 10 and my desktop running Windows 7. ???
Thanks again!

Okay.
I had my iDea files installed on a Vista desktop, which is gone.
I have a rarely used iDea module that I did edit some of the settings...
I just plugged it into my Windows7 laptop... for first time.
As soon as I plugged-in the USB a box appeared saying "preparing to install driver"...
Once the show was over it showed the individual jam tracks that I still have plus a file for "RECORD" and a file for "JamTrax".
I neglected to look through them.

So I just plugged-it-in again.
The box appears with "Play with media player" and "open files".
I click "play" and it starts playing the iDea introduction.
When I close my WMP, I have to open "Computer" to find the iDea under "removable storage".
When I open files I see the individual Tracks that I did not delete.
Under "Jam Trax" there is one track that I got from "Workshop Live"

"RECORD" was empty, which is weird cuz I though that I had played a "Wish You Were Here" loop into it the last time that I used it.

None of this is doing you any good. But it does show that iDea works with Window7.
Now, if you plugged it into Windows10 first, W10 might have just munched your iDea files.
I personally think that W10 sux.

Eventually someone with more computer savvy will be along.
We have web designers and all kinds of other technical geeks here.

Thank you very much OMA for testing that out. It seems to confirm my suspicion that it is a driver issue. Not sure why it's not installing the drivers when I plug in the USB? I've never had any issues with win10, hopefully can get this sorted.
I had a look at your photo album and that's an impressive collection of guitars, my favorite electric in my own arsenal is my Traveler.

Found the files by searching RECORD in the drive and the tracks popped right up. I wish it just recognised it right away but at least I can get the tracks. I'll post links to the recoding if that's cool here.

Alsi , can I post in the rest of the site?
