Hello all, I'm pretty new here and I have just recently purchased an Ovation Idea. I'm really enjoying it and am thinking about purchasing another Idea pre amp. I can get one on ebay for $225 and I want to install it into an ukulele, maybe a tenor. Wondering if the body could handle it? Would the nylon strings record alright? Any insight or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Sure. Why not?

As long as the side is large enough for the hole, I don't see any problems.

What kind of pick-up were you going to use?

You would need of course the correct piezo pickup for the uke. I would guess the output should be strong enough. Shadow or Arctec brands make piezos and you might find one from them for a tenor uke.

The can that the iDea fits into is curved to fit into the waist of an Ovation. I think getting a decent looking physical fit of the can to the uke may be a challenge.

He could make a adapter plate/ring to handle any contour changes. A contrasting material might look nice.

Thanks for the responses, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the pre amp. I'm going to talk to a few people this week and pick an uke to put it in. I don't know much about pick ups at all, are you implying there are some pick ups that won't work?
Thanks again!

You'll probably want an undersaddle piezo pickup. It will have to match the footprint of the saddle and will fit under the saddle in the bottom of the slot in the bridge.

Alternatives would be some kind of underside piezo. There are a variety of price and performance points on those. Single round "dot" style, multiple dots, feathers, beams, etc.
