There should be an asterisk by my name. I didn't earn this. Getting an award just because you're dying is silly. Especially when that means cutting short its tenure with the MOST deserving member.
It's here at the hospital tonight but tomorrow it'll be back at the shop.
Things are winding down fast now. Days I think. If I pull the oxygen it'll be hours.
I love you all. Thanks for everything. |

I assume you know that Alpep and I have nothing to do with this token by design. We generally don't even know who's going to get it until after they've gotten it. Having said that... you've been an advocate of the brand since longer than the Ovation FanClub has been around by far. From what I have heard, there are many MANY smiling faces playing music in your area thanks to you and your shop. Besides all that.. we at the Ovation Fan Club community have really only one rule, BE KIND TO EACH OTHER and you CERTAINLY have been the epitome by example of doing just that.
Finally, you are an inspiration. As I lay in bed tonight as I usually do, catching up on my assorted forums and news on my tablet, I saw this thread. At first I thought I'd set a reminder for myself to post something in the morning, but then I thought to myself.... "self... get out of bed you lazy arse and post now! You want her to read it don't you?"
And that's the point isn't it. Yeah, other people will get this token as years go by. We have a lot of good people in this family of musicians... and I don't think any one is "more" deserving than any other. If it wasn't already slated for you this year, it would have been another year.... that's understood. But I can't imagine how those who are responsible would have felt had they not given it to you NOW when you could appreciate it, and we could show our appreciation to you. We've all lost so many people who have influenced us in some way this year. In most cases, we never get to say farewell, let alone get to say how much they meant to us. Thank you Allison. You are an inspiration and I dare say somewhat brave for sharing your time with us now. Your initial post regarding your condition, where you express concern that we'd be worried if we didn't hear from you sais it all. I can't imagine the number of musicians you have touched from your shop, and wow... to think of the number of hearts that were filled with joy listening to the music made by all those musicians... You've touched a lot of people in a positive way. Something we should all aspire to, yet most of us will fall woefully short. Well done you !!! If it comes to pass, than I say Farewell and wish you only Fair Winds and Following Seas. But forgive me if I haven't given up hope just yet. It ain't over, until it's over, and I'll be praying for a miracle until then. |

I will never forget our one interaction, however brief. You had a young guitar student that you recognized as having a real talent and enthusiasm, but she didn't have her own instrument and couldn't afford one. You bought a great guitar (a sweetwater T!) from me and gave it to her. Regardless of how that played out musically for her, I'm sure you touched her heart in a way that she will never forget. Nor will I. Thank you for that. Forgive the departure into choral music on a guitar board, but under the circumstances I can't help but finding myself listening to this piece, Nunc dimittis. I'll paste the translation below for those of you who don't mind a few words of scripture. Perfect peace to you, Alison. (well the embedded youtube widget appears broken, but the link above should get you there)
The Song of Simeon (Nunc dimittis) [Luke 2:29-32] Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, * according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, * which thou hast prepared before the face of all people, To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, * and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beggining, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Too true. Your contributions and being the wonderful person you are brought that award to you. I think Dave's suggestion is a great idea and very appropriate.
You are in our thoughts and prayers Allison. |

Location: Utah | Alison, I am nearly at a loss for words right now. You were so kind to my daughter Sara and her friend Katie when we came to your Rocky Raccoon get together. That trip was truly a highlight for me and Sara. Like Mark, we have become fans of Craig Carothers. Though Sara and I perform some songs together we haven't found a good way to do a duet on Craig's songs due to the vocal range, but we're working on it. You have touched our lives, and obviously touched so many more both here on the OFC and locally in the Black Hills area.
If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. I'll even come up and hold your hand if that's what you need. Seriously. Please just ask if there is anything we can do. |

You didn't get the award because you're dying.
You got the award because of how you've lived your life and how you treated others while you were here.
We all have a limited number of heartbeats. When God decides we've fulfilled His purpose, He brings us home.

Dem Bones? Not because it's appropropriate, although it is, but because I love the song. I always thought the beginning would make a great alarm clock. If you can survive the heart attack you'll have a great day.

A wiser man than I said that all one can hope for in life is to leave the world in a better state than what you found it in. Although you and I have never met, or even spoken, in reading the posts of those who did know you, you have accomplished this task. I wish you and those who love you peace during this difficult time.

Peace.

Well Phil, it's like this. It was a brand new thing and we were still trying to hone the process. It was kinda sketchy out of the gate. You know... there was a lot of "recalculating" like the old GPS models used to do.
With it in Allison's hands now, I think we got it figured out.
Don't be a stranger Phil.

Been busy the last few months. I retired from my job in the hospital. New York State allows you to retire at age 55 with 25 years of service with a pension reduction for every year less than 30 years of service. I had the age and 31.5 years of service. Full pension and health benefits and change in the hospital administration. Time for me to go. Been busy with total home renovation plans and getting ready to start a new job. In the last 16 months I passed the Pharmacist exams for Florida, North Carolina and Hawaii. |
