The only reason I let it go was that I found a matching white 1868 that looked so nice with the white 1858.
I didn't have room for 2 SSB Elites... Miss it though.
Congrats Mario! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I've never played Beal's nor anyone else's 84 Collector and I'm not a big fan of the SSBs. I like the extra bass of the deep bowls. The 2 SSBs I had, an 83 Collector and a Custom Balladeer, were pretty heavily played and sounded very good, but still a little thin on the bass. I tend to prefer the single soundhole sound over the multi-hole sound.

Location: 6 String Ranch | Mine is a natural, the prototype. Marketing chose the black stain on straight grain, not bear claw, so that's what was made. Since the other one was never going to be used I thought it only right to give it a home. I wanted the transparent black finish for the model. Grestch had just come out with the Super Chet and they came in trans orange and black. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I don't know why, maybe mine does cause it was an early photo and had "extra care" when being built. Or maybe it's just cause it was my main guitar for many many years and got played a lot. |

Ebonized Spruce! Of course! The '84 Collector's! She's absolutely stunning! Congratulations Mario!
How did they maintain the beautiful brown color? I'm ebonizing my '90 1868, and filled the wood with concentrated espresso to add tannins to the spruce, then proceeded with the iron acetate application. While I love the look achieved, she turned quite black. Maintaining the brown in the ebonizing process must have required a very special technique...or maybe tea works better to maintain the brown? Hmmm....questions, questions... |

Of course, wouldn't you know that over the last 5 days this '84 Collector showed up on Yahoo auctions here in Japan! In need of a neck reset, and some minor cosmetic issues! A steal at 500 bucks (at least for Japan!), but no bids as yet. Bidding ends in 1 hour!

These moments...oh, how they try men's souls! Time to shut down the PC lest my fingers bid with a mind all their own!
