Location: Caribou, ME | I just bought a shiny bowl Deluxe Balladeer 12 string bowl assembly with the neck snapped off. I wonder if the mothership would install a new neck and about what it would cost?
Is John B the contact? I'm sure the email I have is outdated.

Or Dan Savage?
Whomever knows how to undo a dovetail set neck.

Location: moline, illinois | Nice grab, you beat me to it I was thinking about trying to restore it.
The serial number on there is interesting,4 numbers in red I bet it's older than 1969.
You might look for an old pacemaker neck to use, building a new neck from scratch might get pricey.

I'm not sure... But this one does:
But this one doesn't have a 3 Plank top or a winged bridge.

Location: Caribou, ME | Looks like it's going to be very expensive to replace the neck. Easily 2x-3x what the guitar would be worth if it were original and clean. The bowl will go on the shelf for a while. |

Location: Caribou, ME | I offered $100 for it and it was declined. Thanks for the heads up though. I think back on the Glen Campbell 12 string with the destroyed top I bought a few years ago for under $100. I sold the tuners, TRC, and then the husk and made some money. Wish I had it now! |

Location: Texas | You should be able to see the matching serial stamped on the neck block inside the bowl. 68 would be my guess...as the 3 piece top would have been an early 12. It is odd that Ovation used "deluxe balladeer" tags on their 12s. The model was referred to as a Balladeer 12 string or just the 12 string in Ovation Literature. They probably made so few, they didnt have tags made up for them??? My GC 12 was a blank tag that someone filled out with a typewriter. Pretty cool find. Hopefully, you can find a neck for it!

Location: moline, illinois | There was a 12 string 12 fret neck by the same seller in kinda rough shape now going for $40 plus shipping.
Good luck putting it back together.

Location: Phoenix AZ | The labels were preprinted with Balladeer or Deluxe Balladeer. Then they just typed the words 12-string and slapped it on to the bowls. So some of the 12-strings got Balladeer labels and some Deluxe Balladeer labels. Same guitar. Based on serial number I'd say this is late '67 to early '68 timeframe. Nice guitar (sort of) but difficult restoration. |

Location: Caribou, ME | The bowl came in today and I'm very happy so far. The bowl itself is scratched up but I'm betting it will clean up. It has "sort of" an A-bracing pattern but with an added cross brace quite a ways below the bridge. The main cross brace (just south of the sound hole) is missing, as are two of the fan braces, and a couple others need to be reglued....so it's ship in a bottle time. I wish the top would jump off the bowl and land upside down on the bench. There doesn't appear to be any distortion in the top and the bridge is solid. It has THE thickest finish I've seen on any guitar since a Vox 12 string I worked on back in '91. It's popped loose near the rosette and part of me wants to start peeling it off. If it were that simple! The serial number 1969 is on the headblock as well. I did negotiate the Reverb neck down to $100 and it's en route. Now I need to see what I have lying around for spruce suitable for braces. |
