Hi My name is Jim and i am new to the site.
Any information would be gratefully received.
I have just been offered a Ovation tornado.
This i have been told was a prototype could anyone give me some information regarding the guitar, what i know is
1968 Prototype Ovation Tornado 1260-2 Storm Series
which became the K-1212-2.
when came into production, i have been told the serial number is just over 1000 but i find it hard to believe they would release so many guitars as prototypes.

A lot of folks banter the word "prototype" around for anything they don't understand. It is my understanding that Ovation actually made very few actual prototypes. They did do experiments, and one-off guitars, and custom orders, etc... You might want to check our Serial Number reference page for some specifics on the dates.

Obviously a serial over 1000 was well into production.

If you can link to a picture, we might glean additoinal info.  They did redo the model numbers for the storm series in 1970 going in this case from K-116x to 121x and later 123x formats.
