I was searching for some information on my Ovation Celebrity import that I've recently acquired and some searches led me to this place.

It seems that I can't edit my original post, but I was wondering what gauge strings and how many (if any) shims you are using in your Ovation guitars, mostly Celebrity models? Thanks in advance.

Hello Mike,

The number of shims depends on your string height at 12th Fret.
More shims raise the strings, fewer (or none) lower the strings.
It will be different for every guitar.

As to strings... I believe that they ship them with D'Addario EJ16's... .012"- .053"
But which strings depend on what you want to hear and feel.
Lighter strings for easier playing, heavier strings for more acoustic volume.
String material varies too.
But I would say, start with 12's and then try different gauges and materials.
No manufacturer really sells an "assortment" pack of strings, but someone should.

Go to the upper left corner of the webpage and you will see "Forum Search"
Click that and search around for help with the strings or shims.
If you search for "Strings" in you will get something like THIS

I hope that is helpful.
