I can't post in the"General Posting" section.
What do I have to do?
Many thanks! |

Location: UK | Hi Arthur,
it's about buying replacement guitar strings for an old Ovation.
I thought the "General Posting" section would be suitable.
Thanks. |

Location: UK | OK. About 40 years ago I bought a "Ovation Concert Classic" (acoustic/electric).
Unfortunately I had not much time to play since then.
Now I rediscovered my guitar, but had to notice that the D string is broken,
the others don't look very fresh either.
I read that standard on Ovation guitars is D'Addario.
(Now! - was this the same 40 yeards ago?)
And then there are so many varieties...
So my question is, which string set should I buy?
Could wrong strings ruin the original sound?

HERE is a thread of me asking which Nylon strings to use on a Celebrity nylon string.
Looking throw old manuals on http://www.ovationtribute.com/ tells me that Ovation had their own brand of strings 40 years ago. Those are no longer made.
If you read the thread that I linked to, you will learn that I bought some Martin strings and some Augustina strings. I have not installed them on my guitar yet, so I cannot tell you which sound better.
As to whether the wrong strings could "ruin the sound"...
All strings sound different, even New strings will sound different from your 40 year-old strings.
So, yeah... You will have to experiment.
If you have a Micrometer, you can measure that your string thickness to be sure of what is on the guitar now.
After that... It will be a lot of Trial-n-Error.
You may now Post in the General Posting section.
Welcome.
